If those Gotohs are their standard size they'll be no good for Peaveys. Peaveys have 18mm from centre of tuner hole to outside edge of the peghead. Those Gotohs are 24mm from centre to widest point.

Thanks Kodiak. This is good information to have as I'm learning about the idiosyncrasies of this bass. For reference, I recently picked up this bass from MadAnthony in the classifieds and want to make some small adjustments. I'm super late to the party and I know it's next to impossible to find the preamps from the US Millenniums as an upgrade. The biggest difference between the two pre's IMO is the high/low mid sweep on the Mill vs the Cirrus. From what I've seen and heard, the graphite neck and overall construction contribute to the hi-fi tone. It's exactly what I was looking for as a companion to my G&L L5500 with EMG's. (Notice I said companion and not a backup).

I may have to adjust the pickups as the low B and G are a little quiet for my taste. Not by much though. I will need to call Peavey and see if I can pick up a sleeve/collar for the neck tilt adjustment. It's missing and my OCC is picking at me to get it fixed. The battery compartment is very tight for two 9v's and wires. I will have my local luthier slightly route out some material for a bigger fit and install some foam for padding.

All in all - I'm very happy with the new bass and my Peavey's really sit well with my G&L's. Hoping to pick up a Cirrus in the near future and an early SB-2 to cap off my stable.

Just found this GV thread. Noticed some tuner talk. Purchased my GV NOS back in 2002. I had to replace tuners after a stock one broke on me. Replaced with Black Hipshot HB6Y in 3/8" back in 2012. Direct fit and the black tuners definitely look better than the stock ones. Kind of glad one of the stock ones snapped on me or I never would have bothered swapping them. Well worth the price.

In reference to Raw N Low's comments...
- Peavey does not have the neck tilt collars in stock... at least that is what they told me back when I lost mine in 2006. Still bothers me it is missing too.
- Millie pres still pop up occasionally. I sold one here a year or so ago. I never really liked the sweepable mid or pickups in my Millie, so I swapped them. Got way more money for the pre than anyone should pay for an old Peavey active pre IMO, but there is definitely still demand for them (so if you see one, it will probably sell quickly unless the seller is way overpriced).
- Good to see another G&L player over here. I bought my GV in high school to leave in my music locker, so I did not have to take my G&L L2500 back and forth. I refused to leave my G&L in the music locker after paying so much for it. NOS GV cost me $400 from Brighton Music Centers back then. They had a hard time selling it, because it was "ugly" (mine is holoflake black... meaning black sparkle finish). Still have the L2500 and have since added a JB5 and L5000. Eventually plan on picking up an L5500, but have not done it yet.

Hipshot will custom-configure those Ultralite tuners in that color scheme. I've gotten them for many basses...just give them a call, they're very friendly people.

Btw, the keys on Gotohs are probably interchangeable, but not the bases (for switching sides on the headstock). Hipshots do both.

Get ahold of Derrick Cook from Peavey, via FB. He was the one going through all of their warehouse relics, and he said that those sleeves were all over the floor when I asked about them for the GV necks. That was in Summer, though....

Awesome post! This is great information and I will plan on picking up a set of Hipshots soon. I view my G&L's as performance muscle and my Peavey's as luxury performance. I have a new alternative/prog/cerebral rock project that is perfect for my Peavey's (GV, Mill, *T-40, *T-45) and use my G&L's for everything else. I have also selected amp configurations that I believe are best suited for my needs.

(* - My T series are more for Stoner, Doom, and Sludge projects).

What's is even more awesome is that you have (and soon will have) all the G&L models I currently have. I highly recommend the L5500 in any stable. Don't let the EMG's and preamp fool you. It's as every bit as snarly, aggressive and disrespectful as the MFD's in the L2500. My L5500 is a transparent forest green and the GV is purple. Both scream 90's alternative and grunge and are quality no-frills instruments. I have a catcher's mitt for a face and don't need an instrument that looks better than I do. ;)

I can live without the Mil Pre in the graphite Cirrus and it's not a deal-breaker. The GK 1200SEB I'm using has a high/low mid control I can work with. I just love how clean and clangy or modern and punchy tones I can dial in.

You good folks and this thread is invaluable!

I really like the professional yet understated look of the black/satin chrome tuners on my Millie. I will reach out to them after I pick up my Cirrus at the end of the month. I'm not a fan of gold hardware and want to change it the same color scheme as the two aforementioned basses.

There are Gotoh "style" 5 string tuner sets on ebay for about $16. Hocho en China of course, but I wonder if the keys will interchange with the Peavey version.
And about the Milli preamp.... I love it in a Milli and Cirrus, but for some reason I think the stock pre is perfect in the GV. I wouldn't dream of changing mine. I've still have a Milli pre new in the box, not for sale. I don't think G4s are worthy..... just my opinion.

Well I just ordered an unworthy G Bass from GC. There were two GV's but both had pickup changes on them and while I would have preferred a 5 I do not want one that has the electronics goofed with. If I like the 4 I'll get a 5 later when one to my liking shows up.

I had been trying to get a 4 string locally but I've been waiting for the seller to back to me for a week, so I moved on.

Yeah, I may have been reading into the hype concerning the upgrade for the Cirrus. I really like the stock preamp in the GV and the headroom for volume is plenty. I felt like the mid boost on the Milli preamp gave a little bit more headroom.

Oddly enough, some post I read said it made a bigger difference in the standard Cirrus due to woods and construction. Others said the Milli pre really woke up the single pickup G bass.

That red one is killer looking. It was a wonton want but, I'd have to commit myself to therapy after the amount of cash I spent this week. I just found a killer bass amp I've always wanted and need to start liquidating some pedals and basses I'm not using at the moment.

Yep, the Red one. I'm looking forward to it since it's 35" it should Be a great drop D bass or better yet a D Tuner. Figure it should show Monday so that'll be a nice counter to having to go back to work!

Yup, that's where I'm trending. Getting ready to sell off a few Fenders I'm not using at the moment. Mainly use my G&L's for covers and hard rock and my Peavey's for my newer projects. Both brands are amongst the best buy for the quality IMO.
