Yeah, Tunes are wide.

That's probably the number one reason I bought one, back then...I had a sixer made for me in '88, and it was really a five string neck.

Nice catalog! I see many of the same pics from my catalog, so I suppose it's of the same vintage. The lacewood bass maniac is interesting, never seen one of those before.

Just had to post this awesome clip of mega bassist and Tune user Yoshihiro Naruse of Casiopea doing a solo on an 8 string whammy bar equipt Tune bass.

I'd love to buy the DVD of this concert but it seems hard to get and very expensive.

Does anyone have previous experience with the TWX-8 (with or without the tremolo)? I'm having some crippling GAS for a TUNE, and I've been watching a lot of Yoshihiro Naruse, and I dig the sound of his TWXT 8-string. I've got to figure out whether to go for the 5 or the 8. Any suggestions?

I'm looking for a new bass and have come across two Tunes, likely both from Korea. Reading through this thread I've gotten very mixed feelings. Some folk seem to feel the Korean made basses are vastly inferior while others like them a lot...

Am I reading this correctly? And if so... what to do
(I'm also looking seriously at a USA Peavey Cirrus)

Try one yourself if you can. After all, what you think is what matters to you. Who cares where it's made if you like it?

I have played a Cirrus. What I found about the Cirrus is, like the Tune, it is quite versatile in sound. Cirusses (Cirri?) are neckthrough though; most of the Korean instruments are bolt on (the exception being the Modern Acoustic SBB bass that I don't think was sold here). The neck on the Cirrus that I played- a Cirrus 5- was pretty wide but quite manageable (unlike a Hagstrom 8 string that I played which was wide as an aircraft carrier). The Tunes that I played (a Japanese TWB that I saw for sale and the Korean TWX that I own) have narrower necks, although the 6 strings are apparently quite wide. I don't know about the 5 string variants. Fret access on both instruments are great due to the large cutaway that Peavey and Tune designed for their respective instruments. The Peavey might be better quality also, partly because it is a handmade instrument (which Korean Tunes are not).

I'd say go for the Cirrus if you can, as those basses are easier to come by than Tunes. With the Korean Tunes, you might either love them (which I do) or not. At least with the Cirrus, once you try one you can know ahead of time if you like it or not. If it's a Japanese Tune, that would be a toss-up.

Curiously, do both of them use the name "Tune guitar technology"?

I can't find the site to the one that isn't the tuneguitars.com, the one that's mostly in an asian script..i believe that site is the japanese one, and the tuneguitars.com is the korean/worldwide one...

as far as buying one of them off of ebay that the guy was asking about, does the auction say which model it is?
