Nice Kingbass! Your bass was made in 1991, I believe. Actually, the serial number is very close to that of my own Kingbass (107049). The first digit of the serial number is the last digit of the year of production (on older Tunes). So I've been told.

Do you have any information on when they *started* printing serial numbers on their basses? I ask since mine doesn't have any (but it couldn't have been made later than 1990 as that's when it was bought).

Thanks so much for the info. It goes a little further to confirm what I suspected, re the year of the bass, but couldn't be too sure of.

That's quite nice! Normally I'm not too fond of that shape, but in combination with the gorgeous wood it really works.

Thanks. It really does have a nice look to it. Mind you, I never met a Tune I didn't like! ;)
Have to say, your own ZiII-6 looks superb.

Tune TWB-6 original MIJ model.
Purchased from the Bass Centre, London, in 1996.
Not quite sure of exact year but think early to mid 90's?
p.s. - any chance of a number? :)

How wide are the necks on these?

No worries.

BTW: I was told (when I bought the bass, ie. a long time ago) that Tune was a sister company to Blade (I assume this: Invalid Link Removed). Do you know if there's any truth in that?

Yes, my old Tune catalog also contains a section for Blade guitars, although I don't see any similarity in design to Tune. I never played any Blades, but they all look like boutique Fenders to me.

You will find some of the same Tune hardware and electronics on Bossa basses. AFAIK, the production of all these instruments was (and probably still is) done in the same Japanese factory.

I finally got around to scanning my old Tune Guitar Technology catalog from the heyday of Japanese Tunes. Here's the link:

1997 Tune catalog

Hope you enjoy! :bassist:
Thank you, b'n'b! Great to see these pages from the '97 Tune brochure.

In fact, I also have some original Tune single-sheet info pages plus one or two brochures from around the mid-90s onwards (includes TWB series, Wood Bass, GAP bass, ZiII, ZiIII, etc.).

I'm wondering if it's worth my adding these to the thread (obviously excluding any exact duplicates)? That's if they've not already been added elsewhere, of course.

Oh, please do! :hyper:
