Update:The pickup routes in my TWB fretless are 5.250 X 1.125.
The pickups would be .875 wide in a 1.125 wide route.
That makes a .125 gap on both sides,top and bottom,of the pickup.
IF I have it placed in the exact center.
To me this is unacceptable!
But what I will do is have the pickups placed closer to the neck side of the route.
That will leave a .250-.187 gap on the bridge side of the pickups.
This gap will be filled with .187 maple laminate.As a contrasting cosmetic strip.
Or a strip of black styrene or PVC
To me,this is much more acceptable than an ugly gap around the pickups.

What order did you pick them up in ?
I wanted a fretless maniac in the 80's but there were none in Scotland so had to make do with the Washburn copy.
Then about 20 years back I got a Bass Collection,finally in the summer after I got my Tune just not the Maniac.
Just a 30 year GAS attack

I don't really remember the order, honestly, I think maybe one Bass Collection, then the Tune, then another Bass Collection (which was considerably cheaper and of somewhat lower quality than either of the first two). And didn't SX do a copy as well? Not sure.Hey beholder

Very late edit: Thought I said this before, but yeah, SX does / did a licensed Bass Collection copy, I have a couple of those too. Not sure of the relationship between Tune and BC, but SX explicitly licensed the latter.

Hello Tune Club! So I have this old Tune six string and would really like to find out more about it... for the purpose of selling it. I bought it about five years from a bassist in Switzerland, but it's gotten heavy and I haven't been playing it much. I think it needs to be with someone who will play the crap out of it, as I did the first few years. It has beautiful Spurtzle and gold hardware and simply beautiful wood. I just don't know the model. It has a Gap-1 preamp, but no serial number - no nothing.

CHANGE OF PICKUP CHOICE.
I already have the Bart split-coil 100G66j's for my TWB.
But I have decided instead to put in a set of duo-coil Delano SBC 7HE/S.
I recently bought this set of Delanos for my Wolf 7 string.(Above)
And I found out that they are MUCH closer to the TWB's route size.
Just as long,but a bit wider.5.187 x1.187.
So as of this moment the Barts and the routing template will be sold and another set of Delano SBC's have been ordered.

The second set of Delano SBC 7 HE/S pickups arrived earlier this week.My TWB is just now in the hands of the local technician to have the Delanos installed.

To my knowledge the Gap-1 preamp was installed up until 2004. So it should be at least that old. I am trying to find the model for you but you could always email Tune Bass in Japan with a picture and they will tell you.
Just a follow up.
Saturday I took my fretless TWB to G.C. Highland Park to have the new pickups put in.
I opened up the case to show the bass to the techie and he says"I have this!!"
I say "You bought the used one that was here back in December?I sold that one!That was mine!'
He says "Yeah!We don't get many Tune basses through here.They're pretty rare.
It didn't last a week"
He asked me a few questions about it.He loves it!"It's a slap machine"He says.

I keep getting burned on Tunes, either by bad luck/timing or bad salesman.
It started back when Sam Ash still carried the Korean models. There was an ovangol 5 string that I fell in love with. Credit and debit cards and gotten declined, but I had been on a shopping spree that day, 2 hours from home, so it was understandable. I had just enough cash on me to put a hold deposit on it till the next day. I went in the next day & they sold it anyway & made me argue and jump through hoops with the store manager to get my deposit back.
A few years later I spotted a great 4 string, used, at a GC in Florida. Minutes after getting off the phone with the salesman, he called me back to say he was refunding my money; another salesman sold it to a customer in store as it was being sold to me over the phone!
TheLowEnd had a wenge 6 missed out on by a day.
When I have the money, I can't find one. When I don't have the money, they're everywhere. Gotta love it!

I just bought a 1999 Japanese TWB6 last week right here on talkbass. It had been up since just before Christmas. I couldn't believe no one had got it and I jumped on it right away for $600.00 with an Aguilar OBP-3 preamp already installed. I looked for 9 months and just lucked out!
The Delanos are in!Today I picked up my bass from G.C.
No buzz!Quiet as a mouse! few upgrades are complete on this bass.Hard to compare the difference in tone from the original pickups.I would've had to do a recorded comparison.
It doesn't matter if they sound the same or different than the Tune pickups.
The buzz is gone!
The few upgrades that were done on this bass(ultralites,gold knobs,pickups) are now complete.

Hello everybody! Here is my WB4 Massimo Moriconi signature. Hollow body, piezo pickup only, three band eq, strung with D'Addario black nylon. Light weight and feather smooth neck. Sounds actually great!
