Hey all.Check this out!
It's a REAL STEAL!!
$2400.00 for a Korean Tune TWB5Z. TUNE TWB5Z 5 STRING BOUTIQUE ELECTRIC BASS GUITAR - ACTIVE EQ WITH PIEZO PICKUP

Serial begins with "S"
A Korean Tune with piezo.
Is it worth two grand?
What say you?

Alrighty...bass update:
Where to start....LOVE IT LOVE IT LOVE IT!!!!
Upon receiving it needed instant neck and saddle adjust...minor and quick, now it's all good. Playin it in the first ten minutes and then no sound. Upon inspection of the pre amp I discover the main black wire seems to lose connection at certain angles in the control cavity. I've since found a sweet spot and have taped the wire down to keep it from moving. Will contemplate upgrade later if problem.persists, but if it holds up I'll roll with that as I love the stock electronics and the tone variance.
Playability wise it is the best instrument I have ever owned! It's almost too much to be honest. The piano like sustain is unreal and I'm having to learn some muting I have never had to do on my previous 6's. But that's a good problem to have eh?...too much sustain....who knew it even existed.. Right? I'll probably go to the dollar store and buy a couple scrunchies and do like Victor to keep that under control til I revamp my right hand positioning a little.

I'm extremely happy that I pulled the trigger and now have a high end guitar again for low dollars.....TUNE definitely is one of the best kept secrets...too bad more people aren't adventurous enough to risk it.
...I'll just have to hunt for more models to fill my arsenal now!!!

This is what I used for mine - LOVE these new Nordys.

Wasn't really feeling the high end "sizzle" of the proprietary Tune electronics.

She can go passive/active now with mid control in passive mode as well. The coil selectors work just like the originals - they just sound better, IMHO.

No drilling out involved. She's is a custom handmade Japanese Tune from the early 90's - even had the original batteries in it.

Bought is about 5 months ago on consignment from a local shop. Apparently the guy never played it - and it shows : )

Never heard of Tune basses until I walked into the shop, and I'm definitely a high end bass kinda guy - this thing slayed me.

Plays like butter and now she sounds warm with nice thick mids and smooth highs.

Highly recommend the Nordys. They fit like a glove.

Did you have to route it our for what looks like larger pickups? I don't mind if I have to for EMGs....I just love those things...brand loyal like my shoes and beer I guess...IR like the Fender Flock in that regard...

Oof; I saw that on Reverb the other day and if I shook my head any harder I would have had a broken neck. I'm hoping the guy thinks has a Japanese bass and otherwise will have a rude awakening when he finds out it's not. Either way it's wayyyy too much when this is not much more (and is a rare Spartan model) [Invalid or Expired Link Removed] or this (Invalid Link Removed) which has similar specs (of the Korean bass) from the looks of it minus the piezo AND is cheaper.

To tell you the truth I thought the Korean ones were out of production, and yet I'm finding new ones on Reverb all of a sudden.

I'm wondering what can be done to help the customer distinguish between the two, because they really are two entirely different instruments/builds.

Unless you're a discriminating player/collector, you'd have no idea which one you're buying

That's a shame because it tarnishes their brand. On the other hand, that helps keeps the prices of the older handmade Japanese Tune's accessible to most everyone.

I just found mine after playing everything in the shop - regardless of brand.

It was love at first arpeggio.

On first sight, who knows. First time I saw that bass I thought it was Japanese as well, considering the price since most new Japanese Tunes are around that, give or take a few depending on options, woods, electronics, etc. Serial number helps; the Japanese ones are often stamped while the Korean ones are printed. As for that model (which is a TWB), modern TWBs have larger pickups while older ones have the slimmer ones, which are still used on the TWX models. I'm unsure about what preamp is being used but almost every Japanese TWB has a 2+3 control setup (or 1+3 if it's a single pickup); Volume and Blend on top and then your BMT knobs on the bottom. Also, looking on Tune's build galleries all the TW basses on there are of that configuration.

The way I see it, if someone is dropping $2400 on a bass, he/she will have done some research about the company and knows what to look for.

I understand. I guess my point was more about branding a successful company.

You've basically got two completely different companies marketing exactly the same name/brand.

Eventually something will have to give - that's just capitalism.

From what I understand, the Korean company has license to use the brand name in the U.S.

Yeah.
Tune Japan only sells to Japan.
Tune Korea sells to rest of the world.

Japanese Tunes serial # is all numbers.
Korean Tunes # start with an "S"
