Thanks, Mark, that's a good suggestion. I think push-pull will work for the bridge PU, where I prefer the series and parallel mode. However, on the neck pick-up I also like the single-coil mode, which actually sounds best when I tested this.
My main question however was, whether there is some dedicated fans of Tune basses who are keen to get such a rare Tune bass in its original form. But it doesn't seem that way, so I will probably just experiment with this one, and find my drilling machine to mount two extra switches

You could always put the switches in the same place that Tune does when they install that option. Just off side of the bridge. Here's an example.

Hey all, I’m looking at picking this up locally. Any information would be great. I think it’s Japanese since the serial number is on the back of the headstock, no SO. From some searches I think it might be a somnus zi-2?

I'm fairly certain that is a Zi-I or Zi-II. I believe the Zi-III did away with the slanted bridge and the upward facing Jack. And the only 'Somnus' labeled Tunes I've seen have painted finishes with a cool groove machined near the controls.

Awesome man, any additional info on these basses? I only said somnus because one being sold as a somnus zi-II on eBay looks like this bass.

That's the extent of my Zi knowledge! I owned a 4 string just like the one you just bought, but with mahogany top and back (ash middle) and I had a 6 string identical to yours with the dark top and back. I don't think it's walnut, and it's not rosewood, but I have no clue what that wood is! All I know is that I've had a Lot of basses and I've never had one sound like these Japanese Tune Zi basses. And if you do a little digging, you'll hear opinions that these Tune Guitar Technology pickups are was close to Lane Poors as you can get. I agree with that. They are crystal clear, no noise, and don't 'color' the sound. You got that bass at what I feel was a very cheap price and they are Very difficult to find in original good condition. I would LOVE to have first dibs if you decide to sell this bass!!!!

If I ever sell it, I’ll let you know. However, my wife said it’s so beautiful she wants to display it in the house so I think it’s gonna be a keeper. The fit and finish on this bass is absolutely incredible.

Does anyone in here know how the EQ on the back panel works? There’s 4 screws you can access through the plate on the back.

I thought this was pretty cool. I opened up the bass and found the answers to my questions. I was wondering what screw corresponded with what EQ band. What I didn’t know is that there’s neck and bridge pup gain controls back there or that the last knob was a low pass filter. I assumed it was a tone knob.

Do all TUNE basses come with that diagram or just the MIJ ones? I'm looking to purchase a Tune TWB 5, I think it's MIJ, but there is no serial #. Is there any other way to tell? It has EWG pickups if that helps. It's supposedly made in 1999 but I can confirm. Any help would be great!

Japanese Tunes have all numbers or nothing at all.
Korean Tunes start with an "S"

It looks like an EMG BQC preamp board to me. I have one in a non-Tune bass. Would make sense with the pickups, too. That would make the switch chart be for setting the center frequency for the treble control.

Just by the diagram you can tell it's a Korean Hatsun? I can't find a serial number anywhere on this thing. I have a few more pictures a few posts up.

Folks don't need a diagram . Around 93 - 94 Tune production was moved to Korea, if your 1999 date is correct its Korean.
