Just grabbed this beauty. Well played, but for good reason. She plays AMAZING! Sounds great too (as expected). The birdseye top, etc, is gorgeous. Guessing she might be a custom shop (like my other Tune w the LEDs)? Regardless, a wonderful instrument!

That pinstripe around the body edge is so elegant. Swap those control knobs and you'll have a real beauty there!

I'm a Lefty, currently own 48 basses - 4's, 5's, 6's, EUB, 2 Ukulele Basses, 5 Acoustics - all of various brands/prices... have reigned my GAS in the past several years... but!, have always wanted one of these basses; if I could find a Lefty 5-string like this, and purchase it, I could die happy... a beautiful bass!

Friend of mine has this - it was his first bass that he managed to buy back from the person he sold it to years ago.

He doesn't know much about it. The body looks mahogany - anyone know what the top wood is?

He swapped the original gold hardware out for black, and the original pickups just died and were replaced (with geezers I believe).

Any info would be welcomed!

Hi TUNE club,

Here's a few pics of my Tune fretless 4 (TB-4?) that I suspect is roughly as old as me. Bought 2nd hand sometime between '98 and 2000 from the store The Bass Player in Sydney. Can't recall the year exactly. That era is all a bit of fuzzy distant blur to me now. It came with the original soft case that I tossed way back.

Probably an early to mid-80's build. There's no serial numbers or any other info except for "TUNE TB 058" printed on the electronics circuit board. Anything you TUNE fans can tell me about it? Anyone hazard a guess as to what the wood might be? What were they building guitars with in Japan backs in the eighties? (Edit: Just checked the tune site. The current model TBJ42-NT is an ash body and looks very similar. Probably that)

Gigged a lot years ago, experimented with odd tunings and piccolo strings but rarely played since the mid-00s. Completed my final high school music exams with this one too. So What and Portrait for Tracy. I'm in the process of cleaning it up now and might replace the pickups and active circuit with some passive Aguilar PJ pups.
