Yes or somehow modified? It does seem an interesting deviation from the more standard designs. There's a 'hair line' mark running from the neck pocket angled across the lower horn.
Is it possible the horn was damaged ?

I don't think there's much mystery.
The "Japan vs Korea" mostly came about from one source, an American living in Japan. Fella became aware of the Tune Japan workshop , liked what he saw and thought he had a business opportunity, distributor of Tune to the masses outside Japan
It was when he discovered there already was a worldwide distributor , Tune Japan wasn't it and his business idea dead in the water, the "WSC stole the brand" BS appeared.
Sour grapes ?
I think your best bet is to find 4 new knobs in a similar style. Closest I could come after 5 min in google was the middle on of these:Are these knobs available anywhere? One of the knobs was loose and fell off. I think the knob was worn out.

Thanks ColdEye, indeed, it is as you said a TXJ-4 DLX.Seems similar to mine. You can email tune japan with the serial number and they will respond with details. Mine is a 98, it's a TXJ-5 DLX. So that is most likely a TXJ-4 DLX.
It seems that many of those are warped or truss rod is maxed out or falsely advertised.
Take a picture of the preamp when you get it, I want to see if it's the same as mine too. I'll post pictures later. The only criticism I have is when you switch from active to passive and vice versa there is sometimes a loud pop. Other than that it's a really good bass. Clean out the truss rod nut, mine had gunk on the threads somehow and that made the truss rod hard to turn.
finally the TXJ-4 DLX has arrived!
As soon as I took it I realised the other main difference besides not having the rounded angles of the Maniacs or TWB/X was the neck profile!
The neck is not super slim as a TWB or Maniac, feels a little bit chunkier but not as much as a modern Pbass.
The radius is the same as my MiK TWB-4 and although at the nut they are Jbass sizes going up the neck the TXJ gets larger:
Nut: 39mm (TWB, TXJ)
12th fret: 53 mm (TWB) 55mm (TXJ)
24th fret: 60mm (TWB) 64 mm (TXJ)
considering that the neck my MiJ Jazz std become actually larger than this, it is still very comfortable and fast and Easier to slap than my TWB.
TXJ weight: 3.77kg (Slightly heavier than my TWB) but as you can see the body is
chunkier:

@ColdEye Please find also the picture about the preamp ( I still have to understand what the 3 knobs + 1 stacked knob do) Only 1 9V battery! (twb4 mik has 2)
Also mine has serial starting with 8, so I guess it might be 1998? How about yours?

Overall it's a very nice bass! I am expecting it will become my go to bass as it is a great compromise between the ultra slim necks of Tunes and those of classic Fenders.
cheers
I once owned a BEB 5 ebony fretboard, but with an active/passive switch, it was "pre-hearthquake on Kobe island" era, early 90's MIJ so.Current TUNE websites:
The original TUNE, from Japan:
TUNE Official Web Site - Tune Guitar Maniac (rim.or.jp)
TUNE, Korea, production aside from Japan:

And finally, the parent organization to Korean Tune, the giant wholesale house Partsland. No retail sales, but maybe a good reference to track down through your fave retailer. The new name for formerly WSC Music.

thank you @ColdEye I thought something like that too, but because there was still sound coming out when I turned off the 2 PUs volumes I was not sure..indeed it needs a bit of TLC. Mine has a very similar Serial, I am wondering if they just produced that for a very limited time.Preamp looks the same. Controls are NeckVol/Bridge Vol/Passive Tone/Stacked T/B and active passive switch and series parralel switch.
Nice one ... but not everything is original. How do you like this Tune Somnus Zi?
