You should tell him that his thoughts should be katalox, because that's what real men* put on their custom-ordered basses.
(*This is clearly the only necessary reason.)

Well, for no other reasons than my finances, we have time to figure it out, but yeah, I'm very interested to hear what he's gonna' say.
Yet again I call on my Zon brothers ears...
Here is my first play about with piccolo strings, I must say im enjoying them. I definately should have let them settle in a bit more before i recorded this as the tuning drifts a little, but thats the kind of guy I am It is ONLY a demo, but I like the "sound" of how the bass is recording now. It's called "Meaning of Times Passing" at the following link if you are interested.

I can`t be objective since I`m a huge Manring fan and it sounds pretty similar to him (which is a good thing of course
)I dig it.
The creative use of feedback reminded me of Robert Fripp. Is he an influence and are you using an Ebow? Thanks for sharing this hyperbase track.

The new Folk in A subsidiary, "Hearts Take Flight", is out on CD and iTunes.
All instrumental music, not sure of a categorization for it, but it features the Zon fretless pretty extensively.

I found recently that favouring the neck pickup, cutting highs and boosting mids and lows allows me to sit in my church mix very well, in the face of strict volume controls and not-so-good monitoring.
I've always appreciated Zon for their clear, articulate sound. I've had a few in the past and while they've never been my "meat and potatoes" bass, they've been great for solo and duo playing.
While I've been pretty content lately with my three basses (main bass, backup bass and fretless bass), I did think recently "it'd be nice to have a high C strung Zon for those solo and duo situations".
I happened to be going over friend Andy's house as he agreed to help me audition cabinets. Knowing he has a VB4 and VB5, I said VERY tongue in cheek, "when are you going to sell the Vinny VB5H?" Expecting a "never", the reply instead was "I'll be the first to know". The next reply ninety minutes later was "bring cash".
The good part was Vinny only had to cross one state line to get to his new home. From Andy and Mark at Zon, it's a 2008 ash VB5H with redwood burl top. It's fairly standard as far as Vinny's go except that it has custom wound, Duncan humbuckers instead of the Bartolini's.
I've always like the Vinny and I think this one might work out. It's small enough that I can keep it in my office where I work. As I get some free time during the day, I'll pick it up and work on things. I was hoping to try it already on a jazz duo but thanks to the snow, that'll have to wait another week.
Anyways, it's good to have another Zon under the roof. Thanks Andy.

Well, I'm basically digging my VB4 more, and I have the TJ5, so I considered the VB5H to be a little redundant. Plus, GAS got a hold of me again so I used to funds as a down payment on another instrument.

Actually, I have an MTD gig bag that is that color. I figured it was an "official" bass color.

I received today my second Sonus (first is a Sonus Special)
Second one is a 2001 standard Sonus (seven years younger than the Special)
I was noticing A-B ing them that there are lots of differences between the two.
No idea if profiles changed over the years, but the Special had a bigger headstock, and a thinner body (4 mm difference).
Apart from this the Standard is much lighter and resonating than the Special which is a bit dull to me.
Looks like also the neck density is completely different.
Any idea anyone ?
