Hmmmm

I really can't afford a new bass... but given that the sole remaning Zon dealer in SD is less than a mile from where I work, I may have to start saving... If I can find a 34" 5 string zon that I can *slap* I may be going into debt...!

Thank you. Joe and co really knocked it out of the park with this one.

It's a guanacaste body with a beautiful bubinga top.
It's not really a TJ - more a menage.
I went with a set neck because that's really my preference for feel, and the tone is beautiful. I am just loving how it turned out.
The pickups are wound like Sonus Customs, but are in radiused covers, and are positioned as though they were on a Special. The extended fingerboard creates the rest of the "ramp".
Oh, and I string it B-G. I'm not a high-C player.

She is a very rich, warm sounding bass. I have a couple of gigs this weekend. If we remember to push "record" I'll post some sounds.

I'm used to the extra space because I had Joe change my Special to 16.5 mm spacing a few years ago.
So I'm used to it - feels totally normal to me.

So, with all the vinny basses out there (mine with new hipshot system) who is stringing them? I just unraveled 3 different strings across two sets trying to get it strung up. Not happy. :(

Going for professional help this week.

Hey AJ - 3rd time is the charm - I snagged a set of flats off my cheap bass and with a few tweaks to the process I was able to get them working much better.

I think the initial problems I had - at least on a few of the strings that unraveled - were that I cut them too long. The hipshot comes with a tool that helps you measure but either I wasn't pulling tight enough or something but after having cut them, and bent them, and screwed them in to the headpiece I couldn't get them to tune. This required an undo/redo and trying to cut them shorter. Once bent tho, you're kinda screwed in that regard - the string has already been compromised.

Trying to put the strings on that were just on the VB was a mess because at least two of the strings were really mangled up by the screw itself. Putting them back in only caused a much easier unraveling.

Holding your strings tight with a screw applying pressure to one end is not gentle on the strings, obviously - this might be a place for improvement on the headpiece IMO.

So now I'm strung back up - and not taking them off anytime soon! :-)

The old one was manufactured by ABM who went out of business. Joe really had no choice but to go with Hipshot, but this bridge to me is better.

Does anyone know which electronics is inside the guts of this Zon ?
Four pots BTW.

Another question to you Zon experts.have you ever seen Bartolini pickups on a Zon WITHOUT Bartolini logo ?

This bass has issues :
- a constant humming &
- overdrive when sweeping towards pickups

Any idea what it could be ?

ABM is still in business. The old guy who ran it died, but they kept the business going. I think there was some uncertainty, but they've been pumping out new stock for the last few years anyway.

That's the Polyfusion preamp, ialma.

The "overdrive" sounds like a dying battery- have you replaced it?

The hum is usually just a bad ground somewhere in the system. It's difficult to say where over the internet, but it's probably the cavity shielding ground or the bridge ground.

Just a guess, 'cause that's a really old looking Polyfusion, but maybe a ZP2D (not DM)?

ZP-2D & ZP-2DM Electronics

On your problems... if you've already done the battery replacement test, it's unlikely you can do any more besides send it to Zon for repair.

IMHO.
