Thanks for the welcome appreciate that.
It killed me to sell my VJ4 .It looked and sounded fantastic and also played like a dream. The thing it did not have was growl .Ash will provide that but it was alder.Iam a huge Rush fan and Subdivisions is one of my favorite tones on bass but Iam looking for my own sound .A Fenderjazz
is usually alder and gets growl and mwah but not growl like a Stingray.Michael Tobias states ash creates growl .Fender creates pain to my hands and I like to play speed metal sometimes.Love there tone though .People loved the tone on the Modulus with Barts and obp pre .Badass bridge.alder body .I would like one again but money is always a problem isnt it .

I want the heavy tone of a Stingray style pickup with the playability of Graphite and will never own a bass without graphite in the neck .I have owned three Genesis 5z and three Stingray fives. The oldest Stingray played the best .The stingrays sounded pretty similar .The genesis were all different sounding and playing .Loved all these basses.Have owned a Geddy Lee Jazz and loved the tone but not the action and having to take off the pickguard to constantly adjust the finnicky neck .I live in ND brutal climate changes .Wish I had ordered the VJ$ custom with an ash body and flea pickup if that was a possibility.Played a friends Roscoe 5 -wow excellent growl and playability.Played an MTD -wow four thousand something nicest bass I have ever played .But nothing ventured nothing gained I think I will love this bass .Joe said it was going to kick it !Cocobolo top -he said it was going to sound ominous .I told him I wanted it to sound like Nikola Teslas Ray gun .So well see what happens .I plan on keeping it .Paid too much to go flippin out on it .Next stop a four string with graphite neck or in the neck ,Zon ,Roscoe .Modulus.MtD if he uses graphite -dont know that he does?if I like this Zon it may very well be another zon in four .Well see .Ill post pics thanks for the warm welcome I appreciate that alot .

My Sonus 4/2 has plenty of growl or whatever else I want out of it and the action feels the same every day. And thanks to this Zon Club on TB, I now have an OHSC for my Sonus - put a feeler in here then low and behold, one arrived this week! Thanks, Cayford.

If anyone has the Bartolini 3 band preamp
installed in your Zon, what are your favorite
settings?
I know it's boring, but mostly straight up. When favoring or soloing the bridge pickup, I might boost bass and/or low mids, and if I'm doing a little slapping in the blended setting, I might lower treble a bit.

Same here.

IMHO, the Bart 918 adds such a significant boost to the lows and highs already, the only time I ever do anything with it is if I'm running through a borrowed rig of some kind. Extra boom and sizzle on top of extra boom an sizzle buries the fundamental.

When you add the "flat boost" that the 918 provided to the mids that my 519 already produces naturally, it sounds pretty sweet centered.

If I ever do anything, it's mostly a slight treble cut, and/or midrange boost, especially if I'm favoring the bridge pickup.

Actually, I'd love to have a passive tone control installed in both of my basses... Ah well, maybe the next one. :D

You are welcome! I've been clearing out old unused stuff, trying to de-clutter the house. I never would have thought to put up the empty Zon case in the TB Classifieds, or anywhere else for that matter. This worked out great for both of us.

Nice axe and set of axes .I about fell into the gloss finish. How do you like the quality of the hardshell cases ? thanks
I like the Legacy one, it's the egg shape type and has a nice external texture. It does its job just fine.
One of the Sonus has a generic looking hard case but fits the bass perfectly so could be original, overall a decent quality. The other Sonus came with no case but traveled with a custom macabre wooden box that could have contained the Count Dracula as well as a couple of AK-47 assault rifle :ninja:
