I saw Primus open for Rush on the Counterparts tour back in the early nineties .We were fourth row and Les Claypool thwacked his Cocobolo Carl Thompson bass like nobodies business .If I could time travel that concert would be a destination on a regular basis . Luckily I havnt lost my memory yet .Rush and Primus tore it up.
I seen this cocobolo top on this Zon bass on bass central website. Its still up -tell me it is not one of the nicest looking basses ever . I seen this review on a search and it was a Zon bass with a Cocobolo top .I figured if Zon sent in a bass for worldy review with a cocobolo top then maybe that is the way to go .That's how I chose my top. Its not an easy decision.

I think cocobolo is beautiful. Back when I was a drummer I wanted a cocobolo snare.

I also saw Primus open for Rush - but maybe you are thinking of the Roll The Bones tour? When I shouted "Primus sucks!" people stared at me like I was being a jerk.

It was Counterparts for me .Still have the small advertisement for the concert from the Minneapolis paper .They asked Primus to tour with them again because they had so much fun with them .
Much renewed vigor in my playing and love for my Zon since getting it back.Dont know what I was thinking.Joe said he was going to build me the bass of a lifetime -really he did .The bass is flawless.Super happy to have it back.
Noticed how comfy the body on my Zon was today .I never could get comfortable with the huge body on my Stingray 5's,but I did love their tone!

A couple interesting places to surf to.

Norcal bassix string review on utube. Using a Zon and goes thru a wide variety of String comparisons.

ABC Vacuum tubes .com tubes tubes and more tubes.

Well I called...and I ordered! ...now someone has to buy my legacy elite special fretless in the classifieds...it's a beaut...

Man that is an incredible Zon. I imagine you get the warmth of the mahogany with the cut and punch of that 'special' pup placement. And it just looks badass.

It's an amazing bass and the tone is amazing and it really is like new. If it doesn't sell I won't be upset. The only reason I wanted to sell it is that I'm not playing it enough probably because I'm mainly a fretted guy so intonation is a problem, especially if it only comes out once in a while for a recording. That said I'm ordering a fretless again, a sonus special with lines and a piezo bridge. I have one project in particular that the piezos should be awesome for. My only debate now is whether to go with single coils or humbuckers. First they quoted me 8 months, then upon clarification that I wanted a 5 string, they were willing to pull a bass from the namm build, which means late January.
