I have a mid-90's fretless Sonus, and the finish on the neck is, for lack of a better word, failing. It has several hairline cracks, including some that extend from almost all the tuner holes, from each side of the nut, and one that wraps around from the front of the headstock to the back and runs down the neck for 5 inches or so. There are also places in the neck finish that have turned lighter in color.

I've seen other reports of this problem on the internet (the cracks, but not the color change), and wonder if it is at all common from instruments of that era or if they are more isolated incidents? Has anyone here seen it happen?

I sent Zon an email with no response, and probably need to call--but I expect the price and wait time for a refinish/replacement will be rough. I think Moses is an option but I'm not crazy about their head stock shape...anyone know of other replacement/repair options? Thanks!

I'd be willing to bet they are finish cracking, not cracks in the material, which means you just need a refinish. CF doesn't usually fail by cracking through the material like that (in this application).

In the few emails that we exchanged Joe Zon always said one thing .This is going to be an awesome bass! it is going to play like a Ferrari compared to your present bass .That was a true statement.Zon basses are like a Ferrari IMO. They stand out from the crowd.
We have had a brutal cold winter in Fargo ND.For over sixty days in a row the windchill index was below 0.Just last week at 9pm the person on the radio said it was -30 to -35 windchill wich is not unusual.The bass comes out of the case and plays perfect.

One thing I've noticed since I've ordered my Zon Legacy Elite 6 is everybody tells me including some of the people at Zon that when I get my Legacy Elite 6 it will be the best bass ever as far as construction and playability, and I've heard this here on this Zon thread so I hope and pray you are all correct on this because when I decided to go with having a Legacy Elite 6 built for me I really want this bass to be everything I've dreamed of and some, I'm only saying this because of bad situations I've had with several basses from another company that I've been playing there instruments the last 22 years.

You will love it... Another great thing about them is their set up. Mine came perfect out of the box...

Ive only seen them in pictures but the Legacy seems to be a unique species .It looks like the necks are very comfortable from the pics.The four string Legacy look like the skinniest most playable neck Ive seen but ive never played one.
