Eh, I wouldn't say I am more of a Modulus player. Maybe you mean the name tag? lol

I used the Q6 in one project exclusively and the Zon in another for recording. You never know what will be the most suitable. The 6 is obviously more niche.

I don't believe Modulus used to offer 34" in their previous incarnation, but I could be mistaken. As for string spacing, that's definitely something to be reckoned with either way. The 6 is pretty narrow at 17mm and takes some getting used to. Even with a Hipshot bridge you can only push them out so far. But for chords it is fantastic. I like the 19mm spacing on my 519.

Oh, I should mention that my Q6 has the Bart pickups and preamp. I like that a lot better than the EMG system, though that's just personal taste. I also have a Aguilar OBP-2 to go with the EMG in my M92, don't really care for that either. That's something I'd like to revisit at some point.

Right! Sometimes a name can really say it all or not! I’m not really a night person! :D

String spacing is really important and can impact ones playing. At one point I had basses with bridge spacings from 17-19mm. I decide to settle in on one and went with 18mm and either sold the others or, in one case, changed the bridge to a Hipshot B 18mm. My Roscoes are around 18.3mm, but that’s close enough to not be an issue.

Good point. My Modulus had EMG electronics, my Zon has Bartolini. I've loved EMG in some basses, but it may have resulted in too much of a good thing with my Modulus.

P.S. I think you are correct: I never saw a 34" option with Modulus back in the early-mid 00's, which is understandable because of the overhead involved in offering both. Zon does, and interestingly, when I ordered my custom Sonus a couple/few years ago, Zon actually recommended 34" over 35". That's what I was hoping for anyway. I can play 35" just fine, but I prefer the traditional timbre of 34", and a 34" B string sounds amazing on a quality bass.

While don't know anything about being "defunct", the design seems to me to be riding the edge. The upper horn is certainly similar, the back of the body is more like a Guild Jetstar. The lower horn is... also pretty close to a Hyperbass.

I guess if it was licensed it would be a lot closer. No idea.

Vague resemblance, but in the thread the comment of "Zon Defunct" is not so nice.

Though...it's true Zon is not getting younger, though I don't really have the cash for it I'm really thinking of putting a custom so I could be the first owner. I'm so happy with my Sonus I should probably have done that years ago, now the perspective of a 2 years wait...scary.

Yeah, I'm worried about ordering now. Joe is older than I am, and I'm feeling my age. I hope he'll be around and happily building for years more, but there are no guarantees in life.

Flip side: if I don't order, I'll never get a new one!

I can't "like" this for the obvious reasons. All I can say is, I hope those "circumstances" are resolved soon.

I have no issue with a 50% deposit, even on a (to me) very large order such as a high end Zon. But while it may secure *your* side of the transaction and dissuade people from flaking out it really doesn't commit the builder to any kind of timeline.

Not a knock on Zon in particular, but something I would think carefully about in future transactions with... anyone.

I’m not on the Zon build wait list, but I was on another builder’s wait list for about three years before getting to the build class and only had to put up about 25% with no delivery date offered, and it’s been about 14 months since the deposit and build specs.
