Official Zon Club Part 5

i need to ask a question, i have an older Sonus, it's very light and sounds good....when playing the bridge saddles actually move side to side when i'm plucking and make a clicking sound, the bridge is black and i want to replace it, it's an older Sonus, what would be a good drop in replacement where the plates are the same size? Also I don't know if all bridge saddles are the same height? The bridge has a black plate and I assume it's the wilkinson?

I've put a Hipshot A style 4 hole .750 on three different Zon four strings. A Sonus, a Sonus Special and a Legacy Elite.
The holes match but the intonation screws were slightly too short.
I had to take the 1 inch 440 machine screws and swap them out for 1.25 inch 440 that I bought at the hardware store (30 cents each). The saddles still sit on the plate and the extra length is just enough to intonate properly.

I was taking the picture and saw that it is a wilkinson, i can get a new bridge on I was just wondering if the saddles are a standard height

Another reminder of just how good Zon's are.

I've been getting some studio work (not such a big deal, this ain't New York or LA) and each and every time the engineers have commented on how great the bass sounds. "Sounds PERFECT" is something I've been hearing a lot.
This recent quote was what made me want to share it - I'm paraphrasing but "I went to do my usual 'this is what I do to make the bass sound great' stuff and every time, it just took away from the sound. It just fits, it's perfect as is."

Zon fretless with ACG/JohnEast preamp. So good...

Yep ditto. I really want a Sonus 8, but they are hard to find for sale used, and the stories I've heard of huge wait lists and little communication have put me off ordering.

Of course, Joe ain't getting any younger, and Rob Allen has announced his pending retirement... :unsure:

I have the same problem. I take a bass I'm thinking of selling out of the case and.... nope. Back it goes.

I’ve done that many times! :laugh: Also, when I have followed through and posted a bass in the Classifieds, I’m happy when it doesn’t sell within a short period and happier to close the ad. :)

How did you get a zon fitted with the ACG preamp? I have a Zon sonus 5 and have been looking where to get my first 6 string from for ages. Ive been speaking to Alan at ACG as I love his basses/pickups but equally love my Zon.

A zon with an ACG filter pre-amp sounds like a dream.

You can buy the preamp and have it fitted. I've had an East preamp (who makes the ACG) in my Zons for probably 15 years now. I had an ACG/East filter-based preamp in my 5 string for a while but swapped it out for the standard East model.

I bought it from Alan and installed it. Pretty simple.
