Hey Angus did you happen to see my Legacy Elite VI, it's the same spec's as Tom's bass but a six string version?
Made a visit to Planetbass in Minneapolis MN Friday.Anyone looking to purchase a Sonus 5 without the wait can look on his website he has some real nice stuff .My favorite was the CS5 .It had a wenge top with matching headstock ,a purpleheart tone plate and backed to the bridge soapbar pickup placement.The bass was a very special instrument and had the growling tone thing going on real nicely .Just played and sounded awesome.I brought my Mesa BB 750 to sample some stuff with and we plugged it into some Epifani 10 inch cabs -6-10's in all and that bass is golden man .Real awesome tone going on .A special Zon for sure.So ,if you want one and don't want the wait that one is an awesome tone machine .
Did you happen to try the one with Macassar ebony top as well? That is one of the most beautiful basses I've ever seen...

Has anyone tried circle k/Kalium strings on their Zon? I've been using sunbeams but may try a balanced .136 set i have sitting around. Wondering if anyone else has given these a whirl
Yes ,I did try that bass with the macassar body as well ,very lightweight . The top in person is so deep and rich drop dead beauty.
I do not ever use the overdrive on the BB 750 ever.I think it makes the amp sound horrible ,but I do use the regular channel with the gain past twelve o clock .The Zons all had that similar Zon tone even compared to my own that I brought with to A-B. Obviously there are tone differences in woods ,pickup choice ,placement etc .The Wenge bass sounded the best to my ears -it had this growl that made me want to own it.The setup was super low.It had DR lowbeams on it and it was "the winner to my hands and ears ".I also played my first TJ and though unplugged it was awesome sounding acoustically .Nice to be able to better access those high notes. Sometimes my hand does not fit into the space on the Sonus to get to those notes . That Wenge is wild looking and the choice of materials and pickup placement made for awesome tone .I would have traded Tony my Sonus for that one in NY minute .The truth be told is that the tones between the basses were subtle and they really were similar sounding and playing at the same time somewhat different .In a band setting that I would be in with loud distorted guitars and of course Keith Moon on drums, Iam not sure one tone would really be discernible to the general public in comparison to another .It would take another bassist or person who was a musician to be able to discern the difference in that setting. In ND there are not any high end bass shops .It takes traveling to a place like Bass Sandiego , Planetbass,BassCentral or NAMM etc. to be able to check out the differences between these basses. I am happy to own my Zon .Sometimes a person gets bored with their sound and feel they need a new tone . Everytime I check something else out that I think might be the new and improved tone in my head I get grounded by the reality of Zon being the best thing for me .Once you get used to the Zon neck -only takes one day ,nothing else will suffice. Think its time to add some ten inch speakers to my arsenal and bi- amp. Glad I have six Beyma 10G40's in my closet waiting to be modeled into new cabs .Think Iam going to build a 4x10,order two more Beyma 10G40's and build two 2x10's. It was a bit cold out this winter to be doodling on the table saw, its finally nice here . Cheers
