They sound like nice basses. I've had a number of Zons but always got rid of them due to the spacing. I was so happy that Joe custom built my 6 in 19mm. If I can't find something suitable in a 19mm 5, he will build me a sweet 5er.

He was going to play the Zon and Aguilar Bass and Brews that I played but was not able to attend NAMM this year. I believe I saw at least one. Mine was there too, but its a TJ6 in body shape. All else is to my specs.

Todd's new TJ6 is 32" headless. I didn't see one of those

Anyone with a 3-pickup Zon- would you mind telling me what type of selector board/switch your bass has and where its placed in the control cavity with that huge Polyfusion circuit board (a pic would help). My fretted TJ5 has three pickups but no selector switch, and I'd like to get one installed. Joe Zon said he didn't remember building one with no switch- I sent him a couple pics of the bass when he asked but haven't heard back in quite a while.

Does anyone know if Zon is willing to add the Pedulla-esque polyester fingerboard coating to an older Zon? I just got a 1998 fretless Sonus Custom 6 that I love, but would love even more with the fingerboard coat (and possibly the newer electronics w/ mid controls and a piezo). ;)

And if so, how much would it probably cost?

I already sent Zon Customer Service an e-mail, but it's been four or five days and I haven't heard back.

Don't those already have a phenolic board?
I have seen them do restorations and upgrades. They are probably swamped with orders from NAMM. I'd give them a call.

Yes, it does have a phenowood board, and it does sound awesome.

I'm not really worried about wearing the bare board down with roundwounds, but I am interested in a polyester coat for tone/sustain purposes.

All that being said, I just got an e-mail from Zon saying they'll do the coat for $225 and the new electronics for $150. :)

FWIW, the polyester coating is not as durable as epoxy. Pedulla actually recommends using nickel strings and not stainless. I don't know where the phenowood stands; but, it seems pretty durable. If I were putting any coating on, it would be epoxy.

Now I am a bit curious about the phenowood. I have an older Sonus Special that has been played pretty hard. But, its board seems to be holding up pretty well.
