I love my Sonus 5 (in other words, subscribing). :)

Totally standard Sonus 5 except for a figured redwood top. Ridiculously light at about 7.5 pounds, and incredible tone. Of all the Zons I've owned and had extended access to (which is like 8 now I think), it's the best for me.

I think most folks have already seen this one, as I've had it a long time, but just in case...

I love that one Vic.. I really dig the top, and 7.5 pounds sounds really good!

Sonus Special fretless 5 - that really has a nice ring to it :D
I've wanted one of these darlin's for a while now.

She's a talkbass score (you've seen her in the classifieds here), and a beauty. Beautifully figured top.
I was going to wait to post pics until she gets here (hopefully late next week), but you twisted my arm... :D
These are from the previous seller.

Wish me luck while I wait for her, fellers!

And I'd like to request #18, since we're about there - special number to me.

That`s a fantastic bass.
I own the same model (but fretted) and it`s wonderful.
I`ve been just playing my Sonus Fretless and its amazing. Never played a better fretless in my life.

That`s a fantastic bass.

Thanks. I'm hopeful (and pretty confident) that I'll feel the same way.

I love my Willis fretless, and she's a great bass too.
I think that she and the Zon will have slightly different niches - different tonal strengths. It's a good complement. Also the first time I've had (or wanted) two of the same "type" of bass (e.g., I've had a fretless and fretted, but never more than one of each at a time). I tend to like long, deep relationships rather than quantity :D

But two beauties is something I can handle :D :D

Vic,
This may actually have been yours once a long time ago... possibility?
I think so, and let me tell you it's KILLER!!!!!!!

If I had ANY chance to play fretless on a regular basis, it'd still be mine. Adrian Garcia personally ordered this for himself originally!

She arrived today, and she really is ALL THAT...
What a sweet playing, sweet sounding instrument.
I'm glad to be in...
I'll be doing some recording with her this weekend.

Whoa!!! Man, I would have guessed that the resulting tone from that EQ setting would be virtually unusable. :hmm:

Tom.

Whoa! Tombowlus responding to my post!!

I graduated to a Zon from a Cort Curbow, which had a single pickup and was rather middy. I think early on i was trying to EQ my sound to sound like my old bass, not knowing that i was playing something much, much better.

But still, i really don't like the normal Sonus' jazz layout. Never been a fan of jazzes.

I've thought about getting my Sonus modified to have each pup tapped. I just want to know if the sound is really all that different and/or useful. Sure, it presents options, but I have the the mid-selector switch which already gives tons of options already that I haven't even been able to find! So in your mind, is it worth it? How often do you futz with the coil tapping?

(A bit late, I realize.)

And a late reply.

I use the pickup split selections mainly to choose where the "emphasis" is, now. Last time (before my Sonus became a Sonus Custom), if i wanted a neck heavy sound, all i could do was to turn down the bridge pup (and similiarly for a bridge heavy sound, turning down the neck).

Since a untapped dual-coil is quite a bit louder than a single coil, now i can use the double-neck single-bridge combination for a more fat tone, and use the single-neck double-bridge combination for a cutting, bridge fart/growl sound. It's fun. I don't have to turn my volume knobs any more :D.

Lately though, i've been running the bass all out - double-neck, double-bridge - and have been getting good comments on my tone. All in all, its versatile, yes, but the normal tone is fantastic also. A tad more powerful than just adjusting the mid-freq with the preamp.

Any chance to share some MP3 or link? really curious to know more about this beauty!

Twist my arm, why doncha... :D
We're still mixing (and still recording).
Here's one, though, a rough mix, but I love the way the Zon plays with the National guitar.

So yeah, I think this beauty sounds as good as she looks.

And one more, instrumental - we call these soundtracks to unmade-movies.

This was a straight take that we recorded moments before Obama won the election. We literally came out of the studio, went into the living room and saw the election map turn. It was pretty cool.

Sounds pretty good to me. :)

Nice one !

Thank you so much for sharing!

Yesterday I had the chance to play live with my Sonus 5/2 and was simply amazing. The bass sounded so full and articulated that several guys from the audience congratulated me for the bass sound.

It`s a fanstastic bass to use in a hard rock setting.
