Offspring bassist??

well i don't agree with him, and if you've got a problem with what i'm posting then have a go at it, too. simple, really :D
but i don't recall saying that the blues was a superior form of music ? if that was implied all i really wanted to convey is my opinion that it is a vital component to understanding a lot of things musically, such as the 12-bar kicking off the whole "rock" thing. OKAY ! my god. how long did it take for me to get that clear with you ? bear in mind that this is just MY F*CKING OPINION, bud, and you shouldn't feel like i'm trying to crash your world or anything. slacken your strings :p

and your analogy was quite absurd. i felt compelled to have at you for that one. reckon i could kick your arse in tekken too :p

and pantera fans *are* cool and laidback. until they get in the mosh trying to capture samples of Phil's drool in big jars.

as for "pong boy" .. jeezus. don't be so quick to assume something. by assuming that i was making some incredible point that you like to play pong and are in fact, a young male, you have become just as bad as you thought i was. i just thought this label fitted in with your ridiculous analogy.

and no, i have no idea what the f*ck jaco was doing - but after studying jazz theory for a bit i have a _better_ idea, which makes listening to it less of a chore and more of an experience.

Hey i never said that a younger person with less exp is not a better bass player! There are those that are just naturals at it! Look at steffan from dave mathews band! He hasnt been playing very long at all! Well probably longer than most of you but still not long enough to be as good as he is! And as far as tones getting into jaco iam sure that he does understand were he is comming from becuase if you didnt you wouldnt listyen to him! There is alot of jazz like that that people wouldnt just listen too! You have to be a very well rounded musician to get into it! But alot of those guys like myself who are jazz snobs will also get in there car and crank up alice n chains to get into a mood! But at the same time they relize they are not good musicians! You guys will argue with us for a long time over this point but one day after many years of playing you will come to find that we are correct! All the guys in the offspring and many other bands you listen to are not even what id say good musicians! There are thousands of players just like them in every major city just waiting for the same break! I personally had that break once! We got signed by mercy recording studios and we recorded 2 cds and did some touring opening for larger acts and it was a blast. But then we lost are guitar/singer to drugs so we dropped out of it and now me and the drummer just keep it small! I have no doubt that me and him could go to mercy again and they would put us together with some peopel and sign us again but i dont want to do that! We would have to play stuff that we didnt want to play and i just wont do that! It wouldnt be worth loosing my wife and child over it! So i will be happy playing smaller gigs with less than 300 people but those people dig us for what we do! And dont get me wrong the stuff we do isnt like jaco type stuff its more a jazz funk jamm band! Kinda like phish type stuff! Well thats what people say i dont know about that!

Tones:
Your attitude in this thread is quickly degenerating into personal assaults and wild stereotyping(where does it actually say on a Pantera CD "you must be laid back to listen to Pantera"?), therefore I will disregard your input from now on.

Eric: I DON'T HAVE TO LIKE JAZZ OR LISTEN TO IT TO BE A GOOD MUSICIAN.

I suppose a lot of classical uprightists need to listen to jazz to be considered good, huh?

Put it this way: I have a friend who is a cello player. He is grade 7 standard, one grade away from being able to teach the cello to people. He hates jazz, and jazz theory doesn't teach him anything new. He's learned all his theory from a classical background, and as such can write excellent, complicated cello and double bass pieces off the top of his head. He could probably write jazz too, if he was so inclined. He likes The Offspring. He recognizes that Rock and Metal came from Classical(Classical>Jazz>Rock>Metal). Is he therefore a bad musician?

Also, name the band, CD's you put out(if any) and anywhere you toured. Just for verification purposes...

No dude i didnt say you had to listen to jazz to be a good musician! Classical music is full of the same qualities as good jazz! And there are rock bands that will fill youre mind with great ideas as well! I just dont think that the offspring is it! Id much rather say pantera has it! The name of my band was 7-white And ohh man let me see what places we played at ummm! Bi-pass Joplin Mo, Hollywoods pittsburg kansas, Bottleneck kansas city, Studio 21 Tulsa ok, Daves Fayettville ar, The box Fayettville ark, River city Fayettville ark, Opened for pearl jamm and sound garden there! Lake weddington Fayettville ark,Taht was a huge show we played with bands like black oak and lynard skynard and ccr! Joplin memorial hall joplin missouri Opened for megadeath. Mssc Joplin missouri opened for tesla. Ohh well we played a zillion more but iam not going to set here and list them all for you my friend! It was a long time ago and it didnt work out for us because are singer died from heroin so its not like we are really happy about it! As far as are cds i can send ya one if ya want! If anyone wants one just e-mail me i will send ya the 3rd cd that wasnt fineshed before we lost are singer! The music was all done but the vocals were not fineshed!

I listen primarily to hard rock but since I started playing bass my musical interests have broadened significantly. When I do listen to different kinds of music like jazz I have a great appreciation for how talented they are and I think "wow I wish I could do that", but IMHO despite how talented these guys are rock music just sounds better as a whole. It frustrates me when people who have absolutely no talent like BSB or Britney Spears and or computer generated bands achieve success based entirely on looks or marketing, but this is different than a rock band being more successful than a more talented jazz musician because unlike the backstreet boys, rock music actually sounds good.

*COUGH* BULLSH'T *COUGH*
You could start off by learning to spell the names of the bands that you "opened for".

pearl jamm = Pearl Jam
megadeath = Megadeth

Also, the part about your singer doesen't sound very credible?

/lovebown

So i cant spell for sh##t! So you dont belive me huh well let me see if i can give a sh#t!?

Nope sorry i couldnt do it! I could really care less if you believe me friend! You asked me to post the clubs and the name of my band so i did! Now you dont belive me! HeHe just prooved to me that your angree because i have had more musical exp than you will probably ever have! You have no reason not to believ me so you just jump on me because your poor heart is heart that i did somthing with my musical carer! Let me go play a sad song for you8 on my new spector american 5 string bass!

All you newbies have no place to bad mouth the people that have been here for a very long time! And i dont mean newbie to the club i mean newbie to the musical world! So what i cant spell i never could ! Its not a smarts thing trust me its just a lazy i dont give a crap thing! And ask around and you will see that i will be the first to make fun of myself! And hey man the whole pearl jam thing was before they were anyone at all! It was back in 91 and i didnt really even give a sh@t to meet them! I thought they were horrible live! Same goes for soundgarden you want to see a man that can not sing live! And at the lake that was a big music festival i wasnt bragging that i opened for these guys but it was cool! There were about 5 local or smaller signed bands there and we were the last to go on stage! I wish i had some stuff to show you but you wouldnt belive that either! I do have stuff one my singers death! Why the hell would i make that up? And if i was going to make crap up i would have at least made up better bands than that!

Ya know Eric. You're such an egotistical, moronic ******* that it's almost ammusing.

As for being jealous of your musical acomplishments, if in 20 years I turn out to be anything like you I hope someone takes me out back and shoots me in the head.

I really don't give two ****s if you opened for Led Zeplin and played to 50,000 people. You're still an arogant prick with nothing better to do then bad mouth others. Here's an idea Mr. Bigshot. Go play your bass and stop opening your mouth and proving just how moronic you really are.

To the moderators:

I apologize now as I know personal attacks are against the rules of TB and normally I wouldn't make one. However if you review this thread I think you'll see exactly why i did.

eric's not being egotistical - i've never once seen hiim say he was an incredible bass player or put others down because of it. he's just stipulating that he has played a fair bit, and alongside some pretty heavy hitters in the music biz. pearl jam, man ? f*ck that's amazing. all our band does is local stuff with bands like pre_shrunk and motor ace. you guys are starting to get the wrong impression here, and maybe it could be due to eric's somewhat eccentric posting methods, but really, he's not some egotistical marfo. whoever the twonk was that called him an arsehole or whatever, i don't think that was warranted at all. he's never had a go at you directly, so why did you feel the need to get in his face ?

PanteraFan, what are you trying to prove ? every time i've seen you post it's been to correct someone or argue with them over the most trivial things. maturity is still an idle dream of yours, i'd imagine. there's nothing to gain by being overly argumentative and abrasive. you might think it shows off your intelligence, but people will just think you're a dickhead and a know-it-all, eventually.

The same thing could be said of you. It all comes down to personal opinion.

OMG ROFLMFAO hahahahahahahaw!! Thank you all!!!!! I poked into this thread, halfway bored, and find a total slamfest. Everyone slamming the other, this is great guys, quality work. And what more, you are arguing over what? Whether Jaco is better than Greg K? Well, of course Jaco is better than Greg K. Number one, Jaco has a last name. Pastorius. Does ANYONE seem to know the offspring bass player's last name?

No.

It's just K.

I have not listened to the offspring in years, therefore I don't know if he is a decent bass player or not. But if he's like a lot of punk players, then he's probably not all that. But I am enjoying this arguing. You people should go back and read this entire thread, and then see how stupid you are making yourselves look. Now if you wanna find something good to argue over, I will join in, something such as whether or not Superstring Theory solves the incompatibility between the Uncertainty Principle of Quantam Mechanics and Einstein's General Theory of Relativity.

Last time I looked, this was Talkbass.com, and therefore it is reasonable to assume that all discussions could be kept to a bass and music-related nature. Unless you're in OT.

As for your physics, quoting a general argument that has been discussed in lecture halls and coffee rooms across the world as though it were something that you thought up yourself, does not impress me. You could have at least spelled Quantum right.

And astrophysics never really excited me, and Einstein doesn't ring my bell. I'd much rather talk about Fleming's Left Hand Rule and Wave Mechanics. At least they relate to bass.

True, PanteraFan, you got me on the spelling of Quantum. But the debate over the Ultimate Theory isn't limited to just astrophysics. It incorporates all physics, and is a very large debate. And even though this forum is devoted to bass players, I find it far more mature to debate Superstrings than whether Greg "K" is a better player than Jaco Pastorius.
