Yeah, man, I expect they sound good and are quite functional, but something about those pickups makes 'em look cheap. I do kinda like the body shape though.
I never criticized them for the Bongo or the Big Al...I like both.
My original statement stands.
Dean had several Jazz models that didn't look like Jazz bass clones, Italia has a P type bass that looks different enough to not elicit a yawn, and Dipinto has a Les Paul type bass that's anything but boring. I can name several other interesting takes on well-known classics, too. Damn, even Fender's Dimension looks different enough from a Stingray that I give them some credit.

Not exciting. Now, show me a pic of a P/MM 5 string and we'll have something to talk about.
Meh. Two more basses to throw on top of the giant Fender-style pile.
That is more a testament to the true impact that Leo Fender had on the electric bass than anything else... If it ain't broke ..... Considering that Fender and MM in particular more or less defined the instrument..

Not my cup of tea, but these were announced a while ago.
With musiciman's fantastic build quality these could be interesting basses. I'm always amazed at fantastic attention to detail and build quality of the musicman basses. I'll reserve judgement till I see these in person.
I'll get a diamond blue Caprice if they're around long enough. I really don't understand why MM in particular is getting such a bad rap for putting out a Fender style bass. A fair amount of medium/high end and boutique companies do this with significantly more similar designs and catch none of this flack around here. It's not like they're selling out or "being reduced" to making these basses either. There is a market for it and the traditional Stingray/Sterling basses are still around. Additionally, they aren't the most expensive passive P/PJ basses made in the USA. It's a couple hundred more than a Fender MIA for the P, and right around Fender's MIA price for a PJ. Doesn't seem unreasonable to me.
Edit: Woah, Bongos, Classics, and Neck-Thrus are still on the site as well. I'm even more confused as to what the problem is.

Agreed. I'm not a big fan of non-Fender basses that look like Fenders. But there seem to be many many bassists who like that sort of thing so it makes me wonder what took the EBMM company so long to do it...or have they done so before?
Agree. Even the PJ sparked some interest but once I found out there were no 5ers it turned into a Meh.
To be honest... That Cutlass P is only a couple $100 more than an American Standard P and I think the difference in build quality is worth that. Those MM necks are worth the $. I'd probably pick up a used one in the $1000-$1200 range.
