I'm on the brink of selling my Geddy Lee Jazz Bass even though I promised I would never sell this one.

Well. I caught the Precision fever.

Is this because it's "cool" to like Precisions? No. It's based on usefulness for me.

I play at church and I've never had a single Sunday service where I was pleased with the Geddy or any Jazz Bass for the matter. I'm sure it works for some other people and that's awesome for them!

Whenever I use Precisions, I never had a bad service except when the dumb sound guy told me my bass was too loud. Ha.

I think I'm going full on P-Bass now.

There's a reason the Fender precision bass has been on more records than any other bass

The Jazz has never sounded great with our worship team. The Precision? Well!

This is our third building, we have run into different challenges in each place. Our former building was a movie theater. We set up and had church on Sunday morning an they ran movies when we were done. In that building my 50's P and my GK sounded best. Other days the Jazz seemed to cut through the mix there. We had no house system just my amp for bass.
We are now in a actual church building with a lot of glass (not stained) and very high ceilings. We have had some problems tweaking the sound there too. For a long time I had problems getting my bass loud enough the hear myself on stage without it blooming in the audience and being too loud. I ended up playing by brail a lot. We have gotten the sound a lot better now but it took a while. So far my American Standard P works best there but I have never tried a Jazz in that building.
Lately I have been using a small Ampeg amp in that building.

If I hadn't had my Jazz Bass since 1975, I'd sell it. I bought a MIM P Bass and put the fretless P neck from the Jazz onto the MIM P. I keep trying to play the Jazz with the fretted neck, But I don't like the tone at all. I guess I'm going to have to grab another Precision if I want to use frets

In addition to the tone, I find the fatter neck encourages me to write more for the song as well. Did you ever get a Moollon P?

if you cant afford both then sell the J and get the P, nothing wrong with that.

If you don't think you will regret it later, go for it. I'm kinda in that place right now, thinking about selling my old Jazz bass since it doesn't get as much love, but at the same time that bass has been through hell and back with me.

I am the exact opposite. I have been using the P on Sundays, just because it's easier to deal with the tone. Last week I used my J and I don't think I'll ever go back.

Don't sell the Jazz if you don't have to. Just buy a P-Bass. You need both.

I was in Vancouver BC last week. I love your city. It may be the coolest place in North America.

Like many others, I would be hesitant to sell a Geddy Lee. However it as all about application and what works best for what you do. The idea of keeping the Geddy and picking up one of the Squier VM Precisions sounds like a good option. They're a good choice for not much coin. I tried several of those myself before I made my purchase of an American Precision V. I love J's for what they can do and the comfort factor, but the J just didn't work tone-wise for me. I found myself constantly wanting that thick, round sound of a Precision. So that's the direction I went and I have zero regrets.

Things happen don't they. I'm not Flippen' my USA GL, or "PJ" Precision. I give the title back to you.

Indeed! My current P is a parts bass. The neck is a Nate Mendel neck. Feels amazing! I of course would love nothing more than a solid American Standard Precision with the 1.625" neck, but the Mendel is doing just fine with its 1.615". The neck shape feels rather thick but I like it because it reminds me that I am playing a Precision.

I was thinking I had seen you say you had a parts Precision in another thread.... Good to know that I'm not going completely crazy.

That's me in 5 years, lol. Sold my Geddy, bought another P a week ago. My fingers are used to having that split just right there.

PBass rocks! What I did until I found MY PBass, was string my Jazz with flats and back off the bridge pup volume a bit. JBass with some balls! Heck, Joe Osborn didn't seem to miss a PBass.
