Oh Jeez, not another p bass thread..

well too bad! i was playing an American Standard p bass through an Ampeg SVT Classic and 810 at my local GC and wow it sounded really good. I love how all the strings sound equal in volume. its very balanced. not the most versatile bass but with 1 or 2 great sounds that this bass produces its all you need. Then i played the Stingray Classic and now im torn between the 2 basses

somehow, the simple split pickup p ('57 onwards) has my favorite electric bass tone, and for me, i'd much rather have one great tone, rather than two (or more) 'good' ones.

My MIA P and EBMM Ray are my main players, but for different reasons. The Ray is definitely my RAWK bass, and my P is for just about everything else.

I also have a J, but I use that just for recording solos.

I was playing around at GC through a LittleMarkII head, only like it for its VLE (mid scoop) knob of whatever. I boost the mids and the scoop them , and the classic ray and the american special pbass were easily the meanest motha-effers in there.

+1 on markbass too!!! any bass will sound great through those amps. However, the American Special p bass that i played wasnt that great and it weighed a ton IMO while the American Standard i played sounded great, had a nice fast neck, and was very light.

This should surprise no one. Glad you had such a good time. I would prefer an Am. Standard P-Bass over a StingRay any day but that's just my tone preference.

Sometimes I think a good P (passive) and a good 'Ray (two-band active) are all I need. I suppose if the house burnt down and that's all that survived, I'd consider myself lucky.
