Oh man! My First Fender!

So, it's been an AWESOME two weeks for me. A little over a week ago I was about to order an SX P/J when, low and behold, i found the EXACT one i was going to get on Craigs List for $75!

But, that's old news now...

Tomorrow i will be making a trade (again thanks to Craigs List), for two unused pedals (of which i paid a total of $220 for both) for a Fender Jazz bass!

My first Fender AND my first Jazz! I'm so stoaked! Granted, it's a Mexi Fender, but still... basically $220 for a Mexican Fender Jazz bass is nothing to scoff at!

Also, it's an interesting color. It's kind of a deep purple-y redish maroon color. Anyways, you all are the only ones that can appriciate my elation for a new bass!

Pics tomorrow!

I remember that feeling of when I got my first Fender.:hyper:

It was in 1976, brand new Jazz Bass, white with tort, maple fret board, block inlay & binding, big ashtray & hood scoop, all nice & shiny.:bassist:

I will always love her.;)

Enjoy your new Jazz!!

Yup! Craigslist is worth keeping an eye on. Congrats and enjoy your new Fender Jazz!! I grabbed my second Fender, a MIM P-bass on CL.

I started my day like I always do - a cup of coffee, bowl of oatmeal, and a CL search for "bass". I have found a few deals here and there, but my Precisionwas THE steal of a lifetime.

When I got to the dude's apartment, there under a layer of dust thicker than the figurines in my wife's china cabinet, was the near flawless, '03 black-and-white that had been in this guy's closet for about four years - virtually untouched. Aside from one super minor ding on the upper horn, all it needed was a good cleaning (and a fresh set of D'Addario Chromes). Asking price? $100

I eventually swapped out the bent metal bridge for a Gotoh 201, and got a black/red/black pickguard from Warmoth, but even including the setup at The Bass Place, I'm only into it for $230.

Here is an old pic of mine.

Awww! See!? I knew you all would understand...

9mmMike: ooooooooOOOO Man... That is so purdy!

Also, the dude's band practice fell through so i'm picking it up TONIGHT!

Haha, the notions of getting a new bass even made me forget that i have to commute all the way back from DC to home (Frederick MD) and then alllll the way to Baltimore.

Great photo of that finish. Nice Gotoh, and Audere, too. My Midinght Wine is a Highway One nitro, and it seems a but "redder" and less "burgandyish". I think I like yours a bit better!

Thanks! That color changes in different light. I have other pictures where it looks purple. It really is cool.

Can't wait to see your "new" one there Mr. Din.

OP congrats on you Jazz.:) I came up at a time when Fender was the absolute standard. Although Rickenbacker and Alembic were making an impact, Fender was what 90% of basses were rocking whenever I went to a concert. It also seemed that most every body I really liked except Stanley Clarke and Leon/Ricky Sylvers used a Fender.

It took me a long time to finally get one, but now I am a Fender man through and through.:bassist:
