Oh man! My First Fender!

Well guys,

Sad news.

I went to pick up the bass last night and it was GORGEOUS! We made the transaction and we went on our ways.

I got home, and while aesthetically i loved the bass... it actually did not sound as good as my new SX. I thought it would be the strings, but after a quick change up it still didn't sound great. However, the "Fenderness" of it made me deal with it.

Anyways, this morning i got an e-mail from the dude that says one of the pedals wasn't working properly. So, we are going to trade back.

I guess what i learned was... i LOVE the midnight wine color. It may be the slickest color i have seen yet. The feel of the jazz bass itself was also awesome. However... I need to not let myself be blinded by labels and remember that TONE really is the most important thing about basses.

Ah well...

Here's a terrible cellphone shot of the bass before i take it back:

midnight wine looks sick with a black pickguard
thats what I did to mine, even though it's a P-bass, it's still midnight wine.

The GAS pains are killing me! I need another bass like a hole in the head, but I've been toying with getting a fiver and I found a 2000 Midnight Wine MIM Jazz Bass V with the Pao Ferro fretboard (and a couple of minor dings) for $350. Obviously, I'd get on the Warmoth website right away and get a black pickguard and a BadAss V, which would add another $100, but dang...I could just work an overtime shift or two, right?

haha thats always true..
but yeah you won't regret that color scheme, it's simply beautiful. I havve an MIM, and I didn't even like midnight wine on my bass until I recently put the black pickguard on. It really brings out the color. ;)

Wow! That's purdy.
Just amazing the difference from the white PG. I was also not a fan of that color until I saw one wearning black.

EDIT (again):

Well, things have worked themselves out! I guess the Fender REALLY wanted to stay with me. I was able to exchange the Pedal for another one, even though i bought it quite some time ago! Yay for awesome music shops!

Anyways, i am totally in love with the bass so far. It's sound is MUCH better after i did a more thorough set up and slung a new set of DRs on it. Picking up the black pick guard in the next few days.

I gotta say, i LOVE the neck on this Jazz! I'm use to the wider P necks. The closest thing i have is my Ibanez SRX390. While that neck is nice, the Jazz's neck just feels smoother!

Can't wait for next practice now!!!

Just picked me up a MIM jazz Tue night, black with a white scratchplate and maple neck having trouble putting it down I gotta say..work aint happy with me walking around with it in my sweaty paw lol. Loving that custom scratchplate posted earlier. Where can one acquire such things mayhap?
