Anthony is brilliant and versatile and way beyond Marcus's ability. No dig on Marcus, he's great. But he's a stylist. He does his thing really well. But he could never do half of the gigs that Anthony slays. Then again...Anthony doesn't slap!
I clicked on this vid thinking it would be Marcus Miller playing live with Grover Washington Jr.:
Instead I am being dazzled by the subtle genius of Anthony Jackson. I always knew he was great, but his intellectual demeanor kinda turned me off. Now I'm hooked and I have to hear more. Can anyone recommend some seminal recordings of his that are similar to this style of playing?
No Steve Jordan is on Drums.Great player! Check out the recordings he made with Steve Kahn's "Eye Witness" band. I believe Dennis Chambers is on those recordings, as well.
I remember him saying that he changed his strings before every session, that sounded extreme.
You should listen to some the stuff he's done on Donald Fagen'sAnthony is brilliant and versatile and way beyond Marcus's ability. No dig on Marcus, he's great. But he's a stylist. Or maybe just an intellectual?

You are wrong. I revere Anthony Jackson, but Marcus Miller is second to no one in technical ability. There are recordings and videos that show MM 'a ability if you look.
You should listen to some the stuff he's done on Donald Fagen's
Night flight lp.
Recommend the best example song, because I find Fagen hard to listen to.
I disagree.
