Why?
They are more low profile and won't be hitting against anything. Or snapping.
They probably work better than the other ones too.

Why?
...I'd have this done if I weren't working on multiple projects at one time and going back and forth instead of doing one all the way through and moving to the next one.

I think those classic tuning pegs will work just fine. And they really complete the look. I don't think it'd look right with lopro tuners.
I seem to do the same thing, work on several projects at once, or none at all. I'm not sure why.
This is shaping up nicely.
I just discovered this thread. This looks like a really cool project
Also... the claro walnut for the top isn't flat. Does ironing with steam work for that? It's only about 5/32" thick.
Can you press it flat with your fingers?
Hello, fellow Hafu.
This is a pretty cool build. Subscribing to watch how it comes out.
Pretty cool instrument - so percussive. In some ways, where it goes melodically reminds me of some surf guitar riff-age. Maybe it's just me tho...
subbed!
Thanks for watching! Sorry I have to ask, but does Hafu mean "half"?![]()
"Hafu" is a Japanese loan word from English, which, yes, means half... but specifically refers to those of us with one Japanese, and one non-Japanese parent. In my case, my mother's family is from Hakodate, in Hokkaido; my father's family is from Tucson.
Until my grandfather died, I spent summers with my grandparents in Japan, and later, I studied in Chiba. Because of the... social stigma... of being Hafu, I'm glad that I was mostly raised in the states.
There are some amazing cross-cultural things being done these days... the Yoshida Brothers, for instance, or Jah Wobble and the Japanese Dub Ensemble.
