Double Bass Olive G lovefest

I saw your wanted add and was very tempted to offer you my then unused Oliv but I had to try it and now...i guess that there is no going back. The oliv D is calling me now.
I liked the oliv D a lot on my bass. I don't know what your climate is like but here in Michigan the D and G tuning stability was awful! I've considered trying just the G, one string that doesn't want to stay in tune is something I can live with probably.

The Oliv D can be very dark.
Hope it works for you!

Weather here is not very extreme. Nice weather all year round; not too hot and humid in the summer neither too cold and dry in the winter. I'll see how the G behaves and if everything goes well and I still love it in 5-6 months then I might go for the D.

Update: My Oliv G is behaving quite well. I only need to tune it when I pickup the bass and maybe once or twice if it's a long session and only by a few cents. My Spiro D sounds great but now I can't help thinking about how an Oliv D would sound. In any case, I'm going to keep the bass with this setup until I see how the G behaves in the summer when I have a lot of outdoor gigs.

I finally found someone who's playing a full set of Olivs (ok well just the ADG but you get the idea). It sounds good...it sounds really good...

This is Thomson Kneeland. I love his playing and have been following (stalking?) him on youtube for years. I think at one point he was playing velvets but then I remember when he posted a video of Alice in wonderland he commented about having Evahs then Evah+oliv D/G.

Looks like he added and A, and with hearing the difference between those sets on his bass under his fingers I notice a really solid gut punch that I never noticed when just putting on the G with spiros. I think the Oliv G doesn't make much of a difference with a set of evahs, but maybe I should try a set of olivs? That would get costly...

Recently tried the Sonores 2016 AP, have tried all 4 Olivs in the pass (never at once though). Unless you live in Hawaii Id say go for the sonores, really not much more expensive, better warranty, better durability, EXCELLENT tuning stability. I will say however that Sonores AP are more of a gut souding set than the Olivs, which really have more of the sound of steel in them, however bow better, louder. I wish Pirastro would make Olivs with the "stablized gut core" like the Sonores. If they stayed in tune I would probably have never left Olivs.
