One stays, one goes - which one should I keep?

I know, yet another such post. And yes, I know the best answer is "whichever one you like best." But I feel like I could use some opinions on this.

I've always been a one bass guy – I like to keep things minimal, and because I'm a broke dad (with another coming shortly) I don't have the money, time or space to justify having more than one laying around. My one and only is a rare MIJ P bass that I've only ever seen one of before. It really is a one of a kind, and I'm guessing its market value is in the $900 range.

However, I recently picked up the elusive Fender ADPV and now I am torn. I saw it locally and snatched it up without much thought, since they seem so hard to come by. Figured I'd move it quickly and be done with it. But…I'm starting to wonder if this is the keeper of the two. It's much more versatile, but I've never played a five string and I could get more cash in return for selling this than the MIJ.

TLDR: If you could pick one of these basses as your one and only, which one would you pick?

I have two basses. A 5 string that has active EMGs, very nice guitar. Call it my church Bass I also have a 4-string that I use for jams and open mic. I call it my beer joint bass. It's okay to have 2!!

I would keep both.. unless I was hard up for cash but to stay inline with this thread.. I would keep the one on the left.

since you said you never played a 5 string, keep the mij. you've had it longer, means more to you, you're used to it. sounds like you bought the 5 string because of the opportunity and if you had the money and space you should keep both but it's better to sell the one you're not used to playing because either you'll adapt quickly or not. which do you think will happen?

I would keep both.. unless I was hard up for cash but to stay inline with this thread.. I would keep the one on the left.

I wouldn't say hard up, but I spent some solid coin on the ADPV that I'd like to recoup.

I think I could adapt, and I do like the idea of having a more versatile instrument if having only one. But yeah your logic makes sense.

how long do you have with both? play the 5 string as much as possible in that time and maybe you'll be at a place to make a better decision.

So.... You're thinking of unloading your ADPV to recoup money from buying an ADPV that you don't know you want to get rid of? If you're even thinking of selling it, and having a hard time with the thought of unloading the MIJ, I'd say keep them both, if you can. If you can't, I'd unload the ADPV and take it as a loss. You'll have a hard time finding that MIJ, let alone one exactly like it. ADPV's are a "dime a dozen".

You'd make,or you'd get a few back? I dunno. Tough call, letting go of basses you like. I'd let the 5'er go though, if it were me.

If you were already on the fence when you first had her up, kept it, and now on the fence again, KEEP IT!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Keep the unique. You can always go back and track down the 5-string. You don't want that MIJ to be your TB-I-regret-I-sold-it story.

Always have at least 2 basses in case one needs to go into the shop. That way you won't be without a bass for the next gig. That's why I have 2 and one on the way.

The 5 string....for me hands down!
