OOPS I Cut my Finger Off

You've nailed it. It tendons to come naturally to you, doesn't it? Gotta knuckle down and give us some more. I'm making an index of all these puns, digitally.

Friend of mine lost his pointer in a lawn-mower brawl — one last grasp and then it happened quick n easy... left his palm waving in the breeze. Not one to take hand-outs, but worker's comp did leave him in the pinky, though, ringing it in. Doesn't ever get wristful of his four-more appendages.

Anyone else with a gripping story?
:eyebrow:

Ban news, not healing as fast as it should because I smoke cigarettes. With the other finger maybe getting operated on in 6 days, total time no play bass is 2 1/2 months. It's hell. I hear a song I want to play and no such luck. It's hell.
Better sensibly be careful with the hand and fingers.

If I were to give up music and become a nuke then such as luck is there would be no more nuke wars to worry about and take cover from. Oh no I saw some military guy walking towards the launching van, duck and cover LOL.

I tried to play a left hand bass and all my moves came up very slowly + backwards and upside down. It made some ridiculous sounds. I would have to start from zero to play left handed, and even my reach is feeble. I can barely cover two frets.

i just realized that i have damaged both my index fingers...i was about to post about slicing my left index finger to the bone back in the early 80's but i also cut the tip off of my right index finger back in 1974...doc sewed it back on and i still have a sensation of numbness in it but when i cut the left index i sliced it right thru the pad, parallel to the finger (to the bone)...was very painful and took along time to heal but i figger'ed out a way to use my middle finger instead of the index for awhile...good times!!

I can sort of cripple along by indexing with my ring finger and playing the scales "backwards" or as some call it, "the wrong way".
I can almost play stuff like some Foo Fighters and Audioslave's simple songs that are as they say simple and done right. Heck of a relief to be able to play something, I'm getting black bags under my eyes from three weeks of bass deprivation.

Well, what a relief, my fingertip is growing back. Looks bad but according to the hand surgeon, it is coming along well and in only three weeks I can play bass again. That's ok I always like a bit of Black influence in my music, LOL. Imagine two months or more of no play bass next time you play with knives.

Amazing, that was all gone along the cut line and it's filling back in. God's engineering.

Well, 40 days and 40 nights, the dead end finally released and now it's mostly grown back. Still tender, not hardened to the world yet, but maybe in a week I can start using my index finger to play. I was starting to be able to somewhat use my middle and pinky, but I can't set up for mode switches without it. Very clumsy.
It was an honor to walk you all through our fear of loosing a finger tip. Amazing, how much we need those finger tips and how clumsy life can be without them. And remember, with a knife in hand, body parts may part before the knife parts.

From September 20 to October 30, here is the progress. Still not quite ready to take the stress of playing bass.
And In a few days I will be having that tumor they discovered next to it cut out. Looks like no play bass from Sept 20 to Nov 30. Seems like forever.
I did start to be able to play limited songs with my remaining fingers. Learning left hand looks out of the question for now.
That flesh under the new area was detached down to the finger nail and sewn back on. I'm not sure if it came back to life underneath, but only a 1.5 mm skin died off so yea I guess it did.

Very close to healed, I could play a few notes on it yesterday but it is still too tender. Felt great to play with four fingers but I forgot how to. The middle finger operation on the tumor got delayed until the index is fully healed, great another long wait to heal, two weeks they say.

It still has a numb sort of feeling and while laying on it in my sleep, caused me to have a dream a cat was chewing on my hand with it's claws holding onto my arm. I kept throwing it off but it would jump back on. Then was a great wake up and relief. That was funny.

Thanks. I'm able to play on it more every day and the numbness is diminishing. It sure is nice to index with the index finger. I used to jam with a guy that used only two fingers for lead guitar and he could rip 'em out as good as any four finger playing.
