Opening for Jack Bruce!

Man. I'm not really sure where to start. It was humbling, but not really in the way I expected. I got a quick chance to shake hands with Cindy Blackman-Santana and Vernon Reid, but we only really crossed paths when they were wrapping up sound check (and we were starting sound check). So there were no tongue tied star struck moments.
The venue, which holds about 3000, had only about 700-800 people in it. Our set went great, and we got a really good response. Someone posted a few clips here.
Spectrum Road was overwhelming. Jack Bruce is so SO good and his voice sounds so incredible. Cindy, I think, stole the show. She's an absolute beast. But I gotta admit that I had a hard time absorbing a lot of what they were doing. There were moments when they would find a sick groove and stick with it for about 20 seconds and then go off into another crazy intangible direction. Don't get me wrong: these guys are so far beyond anything I could ever imagine being, but they left me wanting more GROOVE.
Anyway, my excitement about Jack Bruce was fully warranted. Incredible playing, incredible singing, and he was ridiculously solid no matter how far out the rest of the band went. Also, he was backstage after the show with the 30-year-old merch girl draped over him. So there's no denying the legend's still alive.
Invalid Link Removed was written by the artistic director of the Toronto Jazz Festival. Some very nice things about our band.
Awesome!! Jack has been one of my hero's since around 1966. IMO, he is perhaps the most talented musician of his era. There aren't many than can go from classical to straight ahead jazz to blues rock to Frank Zappa and Tony Williams and back.

Jack's one of the few who can play jazz, folk, rock, and I'm sure there's s few I've forgotten.
Things we like was one of my fave 8 tracks. And his Birthday cd was an incredible journey throught the mans life.
