On the cab page, this is about that cab:

“This monster was custom made for Greg Chaisson. Greg has been loyal to his 8x10 since 1979. He was so taken back by the 212 he requested a 412. Well Greg was so pleased that we built him a second 412. Same great Celestion Neodynium BN12-300 speakers as the 212.”

It weighs ~95-lbs. Retailed for $1399.

Opinions please on whether or not this would be a good cab.

They had a GK 4x12, more expensive, similar in weight, but gone now, and I'm feigning for something between my 2x15 and two-410s stack.

I think it would be safe to assume this cab is voiced for rock music. Specs sound good. Price & condition good. If 95# and dimensions of the cab aren’t an issue, I say go for it & report back after you get it.

Size/weight are fine for a 4x12...

GC gives ~40-45 days to return.

But yeah, no real specs on it on their site, which is kinda odd...

I wonder if they know what they're doing.

If you have enough amp & the 1w/1m sensitivity is somewhere above 97db, it should bring rain somewhere in the general area it’s pointed.

Peavey’s 412 TVX bass cabinet moved a lot of air, but outweighed a smart car. At 95lb, the one you are considering is lightweight….for a 412.

and I gig with a solid state head 750-watts @4-ohms

As with most things, the devil is in the details. Let's look at the claim of bandwidth in context with sensitivity, remembering that there is no free lunch...

If you look at the data, the 99dB/1W/1M sensitivity holds true from 200Hz to ~5kHz because this driver's tradeoffs favor sensitivity and high mid bandwidth over low frequency extension.

By applying basic (feedback) filter math, if we can bring the 100Hz point up to -3dB via the cabinet design, the slope of the rolloff will steepen to (roughly 24dB/octave) and we will find that the -10dB point is closer to 75-80Hz. It doesn't man that it won't sound good, but it's not going to sound the same as a driver with 99dB sensitivity that extends lower.

Here's an example of such a driver which is ~3dB down at 80Hz:

This driver is capable of a LF -10dB point of around 45hz rather than ~75hz. It's also twice the cost, but that's a big part of what the additional cost brings to the table.

If the cab was designed and tuned to work with the drivers, it could be fine. If he just built a random cab that is not specifically designed to complement the drivers, it could be a disaster.

How lucky do you feel? If you are really interested kall Krunch to konfirm he uses valid design practices..

It won't have the aggressive rock tone, dark is probably a somewhat subjective thing since it does have good high mid extension.

Not necessarily, more neutral IME.
