Opinions on 1x15 cabs

I just bought a Peavey Firebass 700 and a Peavey 410 TXF cab, I want a 1x15 to go with the stack, but i am having a hard time finding a 4 ohm 15 that can handle 700w. any suggestions?

Also I'm on a bit of a budget right now so can you give me an idea of what I'm looking to spend?

I would like to get a matching peavey cab, but if another brand cabinet is better, then any info would be greatly appreciated.

PS. this is not a solicitation to buy a cab, I'm only looking for info......gotta stick to the TB rules.

well, you actually only need it to be able to handle about 350, as the wattage will be split between the two cabs. Just about any 15 will have at least that much, I'd say 400 is about standard.

Took the words right off my keyboard. +1. And, that's the truth. 350 watts is all you need, and that should open the field. So, I assume then that your Peavey head does 2 ohms, and your 4x10 is also a 4 ohm cab?

You are correct about the set up RickenBoogie, the amp puts out 700 w @ 2ohms, 475 @ 4ohms and 275 @ 8ohms. My410 cab is rated 700w @ 4ohms. So i was looking for a 15 or maybe even an 18 to go with it.

What are the consequences of mixing impedence, say I get an 8ohm cab to go with the set up.....will that work or will it damage my equipment?

thanks,
Infernus

So it was you who called me about my GK... :D

Just for the record, Carvin makes (IMHO) very underrated stuff. Their BR115 may be just what you need.

You really should look into the Carvin. They are great cabs, especially for the price.

I've got the 810 and I could not be happier. I know it's not a 115, but I'd be glad to let you have a listen to it just so you can get a basic idea of Carvin tone.

so you would want them to be even.

the problem is that most 1x15 cabs handle much lower wattage than most decent 410 cabs.

I have a 400 watt GK SBX-II 115 cab, and im going to throw a 410 later. but most of the 410's i like are rated for 1000 watts, so i suppose its inevitable that the 410 will be underpowered or the 115 will be overpowered :\

(sorry for hijack :hiding:)

Yep, unfortunately that's usually the case, the 410's blowing the 115's out of the water wattage-wise. That's partially why I went the 810 route myself, and also why I find the Mesa Boogie Powerhouse (the one with the 4 10's and 1 15) so intriguing, though I've never actually heard it. I got a similar cab spec'd out at Low Down Sound for an incredibly reasonable price a while back, something like $650 for a 1200W cab...
