Opinions on the QSC K12?

what do you guys think of these? good, something better for the money? subwoofers a must to run with these? after playing this weekend I decided our PA is not up to par with what we need so my next investment will be the PA and I want to do it right. 4 piece cover band playing bars, anywhere from 30-500 people i would say, also do private events which can be outdoors, halls, etc. I been debating on going with these powered or maybe some dual 15 mains off of an XTI 2k, also considering a pair of matching 18" subs like the QSC KW181 to run with either or. looking for opinions from the experienced, so im not throwing money away, my existing mains will become monitors for the band since they are little mackie 400watters.

freq range seems to be in the 50HZ up range so I guess subs would be suggested with em running bass and kicks through the PA right? i will be buying 1 piece at a time on the monthly payment plan till i get it all bought so at this point pricing aint the issue because its an investment on the bands future.

My one band is using them, they work good, nice and light too.

If you're just doing vocals through them you don't need the subs. If you're putting bass drum or bass through the PA, you need the sub.

I'm using my amp, so not a lot of support from the PA, so I don't know if it can or cannot deliver the whole enchilada with just 1 sub.

Sounds very good as well.

as i said i will be buying 1 piece at a time so i guess my direction will be buy the 1 mains first then 1 sub check it out buy the 2nd main and then 2nd sub if needed. this should give me enough for larger venues even i would think @ 1KW per box

not sure what you mean by foldbacks, but as i said money is not a consideration in this build because in the end I will pay what needs to be paid to have a kick ass PA. It will just take longer than a 1 shot buy @ $800 per unit. :p I rather buy it now than settle and need to get it later I already went through that with my Mackies which will become the monitors for now and practice PA in my studio.

Yes I have to of the 12" tops and dual 12" sub. I don't use them out alot as FOH as we have a dedicated sound man and he brings his system. However when I have they were great for my 5 peice band with Yamah electronic drums. Now here is the Kool thing IMO. My drummer uses one of the tops onstage as his stage amp and he runs monitors through it as well. He is always to lound but the cabinet takes it. We use the system at rehersal and I run my bass thropugh it and vox and keys. No drums needed. they are very very good. I use one tiop in my dup.

Everybody hears things different. I did a direct A-B test between the QSC K12's with sub versus JBL PRX612's w/sub at my local music store. It was No contest in my mind or to the singer in my band.

The QSC K12's with Ksub (2x12 sub) was light years more clear and natural sounding to both of us. As always, your mileage may vary.
