Opinions requested on Artsy speaker grill mod.

Thanks for everyone's thoughts and the compliments on my wife's work. I was interested in what opinions this diverse group of musicians might have and you guys provided. Much appreciated.

The band is a few old geezers doing hard driving roadhouse rock originals. Something between old Rolling Stones and the Grateful Dead. I'm a new replacement bass player for them and we won't be ready to gig for another month or two.

Here in Austin, the motto is "Keep Austin Weird", and I think something like this might play into that sense. But maybe test the waters with it slowly. Swap it out with the regular speaker cover for a set or something. See how people react, comments, etc.

I think its very cool , and if it annoys anyone that is just gravy.

It is girly, and purple and all that, so its possible your bandmates reaction is boy/girl stuff. Like if it were a big truck driving on a road of skulls, they'd be all "hells yeah".

But I get it. Your wife is an artist, and likely a muse to you. And now the muse is on your amp. Don't change it because others don't like it, even bandmates. Art will tend to be polarizing, and there is no end to it.

Cool. How d I d you transfer it to the speaker grill ?

I used a fabric printer called Contrado. I think they are in the UK.

Mine was printed on a bamboo silk fabric only because I didn't notice they had speaker cloth until after I placed my order.

Mildly appealing,though it may be a distraction and inappropriate for every venue. Framed canvas would be a more appropriate medium IMHO.

It's a beatiful painting of what appears to be a young woman/girl (perhaps of a family member or friend?) but as a 50 plus year old man I personally would be a little uncomfortable displaying that image out of context to an unknown audience in today's social climate. Or your band mates might think it doesn't quite reflect the style of music you are playing or general image of the band? Or maybe they just don't appreciate the visual arts as keenly as yourselves? Or a combination of the above plus other reasons?

Some will "get it' and some won't (just like your music.... or any other artwork).

But that peice is special to you, and won't "offend" anyone. So I say rock it.

Looks good.
Might not be right for some things (a gig that’s more like a job), but if you are making original music / doing your own thing, then yes.
Visual aesthetics are a big part of a live performance.

Hey, reminds me of going to see Hawkwind when I was 16... As I recall in their early days a bunch of their kit was painted in the best psychedelic manner, a number of obviously amateur built cabinets too. Yours is a considerably more sophisticated creation.

I happen to agree, for myself I would prefer Bassosaurus' avatar (upset bunny?). Still, a great idea - you shouldn't be dissuaded from using it if you feel comfortable with it, or from trying other images if you are not.

I like the centre of attention on stage to be me and not my amplification equipment. That said to each their own. i you want to honour your lady’s talent by reproducing it onto what you use for yours more power to you. Don’t let any of us gainsay that! It really is a lovely picture.
