ORANGE BASS TERROR: The Review!

I wonder how this amp would do through a pair of Bag End S15-Ds... I have found that I really like my tone clean and warm. I'm using a 90's Trace-Elliot 250SMX though my Baggies now (totally at home with the combo), and from what I read this Orange device is a toothy little bastard. Am I shopping for apples in the oranges bin?

Toothy bastard, indeed. I'm currently running my Tiny Terror into an Epifani T112 with my G&L L2k Tribby. No question the Terror would blow the *&#@ out of the cab if I pushed hard enough. Volume and character to spare. I've found the best way to "clean" up the tone is to turn the bass master volume to about 7 or 8. This allows you to gain the tube more and keep a smooth, clean tone. I also run the bass in passive mode; seems to keep things under control. When I want aggression, I just turn the bass to ten, and dig in. Massive attack, indeed.

My rig at home is similar to yours. I have a 90s Trace Elliot V-type hybrid into a Bag End Deep Red 2x12. A very warm, versatile rig. I haven't had the chance to run the Bag End with the Orange; my guess would be it would likely do everything the Trace Elliot can, and more. If you don't need any "more", then you're probably fine keeping the Trace Elliot.

Nice way to deal with the G&L, sounds like. I back my bass off too, and it gives me a little room to "push" if I find I need a boost during the heat of a set.

I might do fine just using a pedal and a 'blend box' for gnarl, teeth, distortion, what-have-you. Even though that Orange is a cute-looking little animal. Not looking to change horses, but I do want a tube head down the road. Although I realize this is mosFET, yes?

Oh, this will hopefully help! This amp is by far the best sounding of all the micros IMO. I love it but the DI issue has been irking me. You can't up the gain enough to get OD whilst using the XLR DI out.

Has anyone emailed Orange about this issue? It's really unacceptable. I am going to try contacting them if no one else has.

I'm also very curious about this, I plan on buying one of these heads in the near future with an ampeg 210 (portable rig of doom :bassist: ) but the whole DI situation worries me. Be sure to keep us posted on any news you might get! That would be really appreciated :)

In the meantime, I found this thread on the orange forums:

Also, can you run a DI pedal from the effects loop of the TB? Would that work or do I not know enough about DIs and effects loops

I've got the same model.....

Cat

Not a team player, chews on picks, cables and scratches amps....also chases reflections on the wall from bass hardware while practicing.

;)

BTW, the Jules Amps mod is for the Tiny Terror, not the Bass Terror....the 2 have nothing in common except the enclosure.

I'd love to try a Tiny Terror with the Jule and Mercury Magnetics Mods through an Orange OBC115 playing Bass.

Well, I finally got a chance to crank this up (to 1/3 of the way up!!)at a gig a couple weeks ago, and the lows are there, and they're thumping. Serious power out of this little head.

Playing through an old Peavey 410TX, with the tweeter off, and it sounds epic.

this thing is loud as hell!!
havnt read through the thread but has anyone changed tubes?

my amp seems to be a bit dark, that i assume is the natural characteristic of this fine little fellow.

anyway
it could just be the fact that i play semi-hollowbodies and 115's.

all the same it still sounds great!

tube suggestions if any?
