Yeah on an 8ohm cab you can put the impedance switch on either 4 or 8ohms. Switching it to 8ohm will give the full 500W to the cab.

Thanks, BadJazz - that's what I thought.
I even Googled the manual online yesterday before I replied, just in case I was giving some wrong advice.

Some of you guys above might be playing an 8ohm cab switched to 4ohms, but you're probably doing so at your own risk.
I'd personally rather not operate it outside of its intended instructions. You're just opening yourself up for possible damage to the amp.

Orange says, as per your previous post, to use the settings they outlined for 'full power.' If the amp didn't have the switch it would be a 4ohm head and you'd need either a 4ohm cab or 2-8ohm cabs to tap the full wattage. The switch just allows you to get full power to an 8ohm cab when it's set to 8ohms.

You: "It's okay to run an 8ohm cab with the amp set at 4ohms."

This is not difficult.

Hey everyone,

I just bought a Terror 500w and placed an order for a single OBC 115 cab.

I'm having second thoughts that maybe this is too much power for a single OBC115 cab. Is anyone running that setup? Is this a good head/cab match ?

I ran that setup. It will be fine. I found the cab lacked much upper range frequency response. And eventually replaced the speaker. But if you want loud low end that cabs has it.

I'm anxiously awaiting my custom terror headcase. Pics when I get it.

hi ......got this head a few weeks ago....so far it is a powerful beast through my Eden D115.....I have read lots of reviews/threads/comments etc regarding settings. From what I gather, setting the Bass & Treble at full cut and the Mid at full boost is considered "flat" (Bass gear review) ....then, I should max. the Volume knob and control the overall volume with the Gain knob, for the Cleanest tones.......or I could max. the Gain, and control overall volume for a grindy, tubey breakup tone with the Volume knob....well, I try it the clean way and it sounds Clean.......but I tell you I can hardly tell the difference if I try it the other way.......(I have read about tube rolling as well, and at this point I am not in a position to swap out tubes, so for now, lets say that is not a solution)

any thoughts?

The max volume knobs works. The problem is not all tubes break up at the same point with the gain knob (at least on my 500). I tried it and prefer the gain right at 1200 and using the volume as volume. Gives me some hair when I dig in but sound pretty clean albeit meaty until I push. With other tubes It didn't work quite the same way.

Moral of the story set it to whatever sounds best to you. I rolled tubes recently but only because one went micro phonic on me.
