Orange sound with ampeg svt 4?

Thanks guys! I can always count on TB for help! I got the 4 Pro today...and the knobs are lose! The gain knob actually popped off. I guess I can superglue it back. Aside from that, mine seems to have been made in 2008(courtesy of the serial #, The guy said he bought it brand new 2 years ago). Anyways, this thing gets warm after an hour of practice, is that normal for a more tub-ey amp? And as far as racking, what would be a good size rack case? He gave me a 8U rack but, as you can imagine, that's enormous. Thanks again guys! Jimmy, I've gotten your help a LOT with Ampeg stuff and I appreciate it!

Don't those knobs have little screws inside them that you use to tighten to the pots?

Anyway, the heat is normal. It has a big iron power transformer and a few tubes, so heat is to be expected. I think an 8 space rack is ridiculous big, but it's good to give it a little extra breathing room in a rack. And always remember to make sure the head has support on the bottom. Some racks are lacking in that respect.

The orange uses a fender style tone stack, and is incapable of anything but scooping the mids. The ampeg can boost the mids.

Really? I had no idea, I'm used to the old matamp oranges that all had the same tonestacks as ampegs. The james/baxandall stack.

When did they switch to fender style ones and why?
