Hey Portland metro guys;
Who do you like for repair/ set-ups? I've been going to 12th fret for years and they're great but always swamped. Two weeks for a set-up and 4 to 6 weeks for a build.
I've talked a little to Chance at Fearless. Any others that you've had good luck with?
I'm considering a USA customs build.

I go to 5-star guitars, because they're right in beaverton/hillsboro. I have been satisfied with their work.

Who do you like for repair/ set-ups? I've been going to 12th fret for years and they're great but always swamped. Two weeks for a set-up and 4 to 6 weeks for a build.
Tell me about it and the couple of times I've had to call Fender for something, they keep saying go to 12th Fret. Finally, decided to educate myself on setups and basic repair to save a few bucks.
Haven't used them myself, but have heard good things about Portland Fret Works - could be worth looking into, they're in the NE.
I have yet to go anywhere local for either repairs or setups, but I was at the Trade Up Music in the Albertina District a few weeks back and played a bunch of basses they had in there. I noticed every single one of them was setup like a dream with low buttery action and no buzzing.
I've actually never seen so many instruments so well setup in one shop before. I asked and they told me they had a guy who set up all their basses (maybe guitars too, I dunno...)
Anyways, I've only been in that Trade Up once. Maybe it was a fluke, but I've considered taking stuff there if the need arises.
I didn't enjoy my experience at Trade Up. I'd honestly rather go to the Beaverton Guitar Center. I know they get bashed a lot here on TB, but Beaverton's GC very rarely has any of the issues that most people bring up about them. The staff aren't pushy, the instruments are setup okay (nothing great, but they don't play like crap) and my ears never hurt when I leave.
The Beaverton GC isn't too bad, especially when compared to the Sunset store in Hollywood - talk about a bassist nightmare.

btw, I don't like GC Eugene. Their gears are ok, I haven't really seen them in bad tune but people working there make me walk away from the store.
Mine wouldn't even go near the door!
BTW - Sadowsky knobs are 1/4 for the single and 8mm and 6mm for the stacked. Heard back from Paige at Sadowsky.
I think she was afraid I would walk out with this 66 Jazz I was playin'. I don't think going to Disneyland and, coming home with a $10,000.00 Jazz bass is her idea of a vacation.

Nice to see an Oregonian bassists club. Been living in Portland for about 4 years; Eugene before that, and Bend before that.
Sure are some great bassists in Portland... Damian Erskine, Ed Bennett, Dave Captein, to name only a few. Nice to live in a city that appreciates good art and music. And beer.
Btw, if anyone's looking for a new rack (SansAmp, Compressor, BBE, QSC PLX2404, Furman PC), let me know. I'll eventually post it over in the classifieds once I have time to snap some photos, etc., but I'd love to keep it local.

Okay, I know some of you cats dig the warm sunny weather, especially here in the rainy PacNW, but for this bat it's no bueno. Hiding out in the bat cave this weekend.
Everybody I work with gets mad at me cause I like the rain and gray and thunder and clouds and hail and ice and snow. The sunshine I could take or leave...
I love drinking beers and eating some BBQ at my apartment's balcony in rainy whether. I love watching the people having difficult time by raining on the street. I know I'm evil haha..
I love to go to the coast when it is rainy and stormy and windy. I could walk around on the cliffs and look at the ocean all day and be happy as a clam.

For setups and repair in the downtown Portland area, there is noone better than East side guitar repair. I buy a lot of pots and caps and other things from 5star guitars in Beaverton and they do have a recent luthier school graduate that works for them.
There are also a lot of local guys who do good work and are also bass players.....

Yeah, I've never understood why so many Oregonians love summer and hate rain...why do they even live in Oregon? There are other states where it's sunny a lot more often and rains a lot less...
