Origin Effects BassRig Ampeg B15 Fliptop recreation

Would you be using the DI with the cab sim very often? Are you using the DCX for always on color, or are you planning to stomp it off and on to add occasional grit?

I recently ran through my pedalboard with someone that has a bunch more experience than me. We were playing around with it as I had the Cali76, DCX and BassRigs. I found that when you ran the BassRig, the DCX didn't add much (we felt) ... so I ended up selling it on. We were using the DCX in EQ mode, not OD.

Never DI, always into an amplifier. DCX Bass is always on for subtle tone enhancing and shaping. I always use a compressor and dirt/tone pedal pair of some sort.

At this point only my Empress bass compressor and bass parametric eq with the MBD3 is competitive with the Origin Effects pair. Diamond, BetaV, Xotic, Fairfield Accountant/Barbershop, bunch of Broughtons, nothing does it since I got used to the Cali and DCX.

I don’t need all the additional eq on the Bassrigs, just wondering if they add “something”. The Black/Tweed switch on the ´64 is intriguing, but if it’s just a mid boost/scoop thing the DCX does this well enough, very well in fact.

I bet it sounds good, just wondering if the DCX can replicate this. I don’t like to use more than one drive pedal at a time, otherwise stacking has no limits.

I can’t say for certain what exactly it’s doing but it’s different from the DCX. I’ve had both side by side. Oh, and I haven’t yet used the DI out on it and still really like what it does.

It does a little something, but it's also pretty expensive to buy a huge DI cabsim preamp and only use a small portion of its function. If you're just looking for that touch of additional color on the end, I'd look for something else that isn't $500.

But this isn't to downplay the Bass Rig. If you're using it for the cabsim function, it's great and gives exactly what they advertise. I also love the DCX use it regularly.

The preamp without the cab sim part does plenty of nice things to my bass sound to warrant using it. I have the SV too and use it similarly, but with a very different sound dialled in.

Good question, I never had one. From what I understand it is:

1. Dark, no or tamed highs, maybe just the nature of the technology at the time.

2. Tight, choked, punchy lows; some sort of high pass filtering, compression, resonance bump somewhere or maybe just coming naturally from sealed cabinets.

3. Not clean, some dirt, again maybe just because early bass amplifiers couldn’t sound clean.

I have three pedals that aim to reproduce this, Broughton Fliptop, SolidGoldFX Beta V, Xotic Bass BB. Honestly I find them frustrating much of the time. Yet I can never put them away for long. Can’t live with ´em can’t live without ´em.

Correct. The SV’s switch does low cut or high boost.

Would love that to be the case, but I suspect this is probably some kind of Marshall recreation pedal aimed at guitarists.
