I'm speculating, but...

New Origin pedal announcement coming on 11/18 according to their Instagram.

I'm pretty sure the teaser post is a setlist of songs that all used a B15 in the studio.

I plugged the list into ChatGPT to look for common amps or effects. Guitar wise it’s really mixed. Nothing sticks out. For bass it’s 50/50 B15 and SVT so I know barefaced was recording content recently with a new origin bass pedal they blacked out in some photos.

Would love this to be true but there are obviously other bass amp manufacturers out there and perhaps they’ll do one of those first instead of a second Ampeg one.

Were they using a barefaced cab? They don’t make a 15” one at the moment.

Good question, I never had one. From what I understand it is:

1. Dark, no or tamed highs, maybe just the nature of the technology at the time.

2. Tight, choked, punchy lows; some sort of high pass filtering, compression, resonance bump somewhere or maybe just coming naturally from sealed cabinets.

3. Not clean, some dirt, again maybe just because early bass amplifiers couldn’t sound clean.

I have three pedals that aim to reproduce this, Broughton Fliptop, SolidGoldFX Beta V, Xotic Bass BB. Honestly I find them frustrating much of the time. Yet I can never put them away for long. Can’t live with ´em can’t live without ´em.

I skipped over the pedals and actually sold my B-15 for this thing instead…

It does the things you pointed out that are associated to the B-15, to my ear anyway

Yet there is more to be had from this rig.

PS the B-15 cabinet is ported not sealed. That particular cabinet is probably about 75% or more of the distinct sound of the B-15, much like the sealed 810 for the SVT

I remember reading that the members of the Manhattan Bass Club had them stashed around in different studios and if you were a member you had a key to the B-15s as they were chained shut. You could then unlock them and use it on the session, if not a member you either had to pay cartage to get your own to the studio or do without.

This is a 6SL7 tube, the ones in a B15, so that pretty much confirms it!

Just to acknowledge, we've seen this, we think the B15 is cool. It's just a case of when and what makes sense. I'm sure if we do make one it would be wicked, and I know it'd immediately be a part of my recording kit!

As others have mentioned, the nature of how we design our pedals and how we build them means they end up costing a fair amount. So with any design, we're always keen to nail the sonics and feel as best as we can, so that we feel those who are stumping up the cash are getting the best version of that thing for their money.

Speaking of the sound of the B-15. While the head and cabinet together are the classics B-15 sound.

My favorite non-B-15 sound was, B-15 head into an Aguilar GS 112 cabinet. That my friends was fat, round, and full

I hope so. My goal of manifesting its creation by contacting them and starting this thread looks to be happening (though I’m sure it was likely already in early development when I contacted them).

Tricky one. They don’t tend to reference the manufacturer name in any way, and only obliquely refer to the model.
