Anyone try putting a guitar through the '64 yet? Might be a good doubler.

I've been a/b'ing this for a week against my effectrode Blackbird and Kingsley maiden bf for guitar and bass.

All said, it is a bass pedal.

However, it is VERY workable for a guitar pedal. It can do one the edge of breakup, nice cleans, has good highs, and the controls can get it sounding very good. I have tried the DI out because I'm running my mod pedals after and all into a cabzone x for the irs and DI out.

What it can't do is give the nice tube compression that the Kingsley has. The blackbird is probably better of all three in that it just sounds good no matter what you do, but the extra channel isnt great for guitar. The Kingsley s compression show deadens, lifts, and sweetens the tone on individual strings and doesn't get muddy when strummed. I can get a similar sound on the 64, but then it can sound muddy when strummed.

The 64 can do thick and scooped better than the Kingsley on bass, however if you do want one pre to rule them all, this would be a good one. I may end up sticking with my Kingsley because I've gotten my favorite tone ever on it and I need to decide before the 45 day return policy is up.

I can try to record some samples one of these days. But that's my review.

Question for those with the 64 Black Panel - I have wanted to find a Bassman 100T (the one from a few years ago). Would the Black Panel be able to nail that type of tone? I'd just as soon save a grand

i can't find the schematic for the 100T but i would think so.

So did anyone used the '64 as preamp (end of chain), and the SV as a drive? Or vice versa.
Just curious.

i tried running the SV as a drive into the '64 this morning. it sounded very good but i really didn't see any advantage over running either one by itself for OD tones.

It seems like some real overkill to use it simply for overdrive. Plenty of other sub $500 pedals can sound good, doncha think?

The SV Drive will be a new $300+ stand-alone pedal, and probably worth it.

but I agree, something like a drive/boost switch would be rad

Or, even better, an FX loop so I could put my filter and chorus after the pedal but before the speaker sim!

Thus far that external overdrive pedal is the revival drive (which isn't a bad option).

I borrowed my buddies revival drive and it was fantastic. It doesn't quite replace my prince of tone for guitar, but it can easily be used on bass without question. I'm sticking with my pork and pickle for bass overdrive at the moment, but I'm sure I'll second guess myself shortly.

I didn't find any. It has a pretty useful bass range in the bass knob and the output eq selector switch. I'd absolutely buy one if I didn't think it was a little overkill for me. Though, I'm sure gas will strike again.

i haven't tried the hot rod. mine's the regular compact. i also have the large version RevivalDrive but IMO, it's kind of overkill for bass (but awesome on guitar though):

Oops. I assumed you had the hotrod, but I guess they all have orange knobs. My buddy has the hotrod and I tried that. Sounds great.

For those of us wanting the svt sound but not ready to get into the VT, what's a good silver medal? Is the sansamp svt still hard to beat? I've tried the sbvt (sushi box), master effects, and the Broughton, and none of them really did it for me. Am I just not an svt guy?

Correct.

IMO, if the Broughton didn't do it for you, you're not looking for an SVT.

My two Bassrigs will arrive tomorrow; I 'intend' to only keep one (or none), but we shall see.
I use a active 500rms PA cab, EV SA 360, and I'll be testing with a P bass with Labella flats, and a Jazz bass with DR Blues. Sound clips are all very well, but you really need 'hands on' experience to see how the preamp reacts to different finger velocity, etc.
If I'm not super impressed, they will both go back and I will consider a valve pedal like the Noble.
Some of you maybe pleased to know that I'm only interested in how good they do clean sounds.

I have the 64'and it's great at clean settings and the beginning of breakup which is so nice.Dirt's there if you need some. My ME Super 800,now that's clean in spades.

Just picked up the SV and it slays. Anyone know if the 64' when set clean can cop the Alembic F-1x or F2B ?
