Oteil's Custom Modulus

you could call that a design flaw...

How so? The goal was to build an instrument in the shape of an Ankh, to which Id say they succeeded. That stick is to combat the neck dive caused by the shape of the instrument obviously so Id say it serves its purpose. I just don't see the "design flaw". A design flaw would be that bass without that stick, causing a massive neck dive...

i'm fine with it. not a fan of the bass. it either would neck dive or the stick disturbes the aesthetics. that's what i meant with you "could" call it a flaw... but he likes it and that's what counts.

The first night in Boulder I thought Oteil was mostly difficult to hear in the mix and I was bummed, but not sure if it was because of this new bass. I believe he brought out a different bass for the encore. Last night, though, Oteil was coming through loud and clear and sounded awesome. I'd say this new instrument is a keeper for sure.

Great idea but for me the strap post... stick... baton... doesn't exactly complement the design.

Function? sure. Design? Eh, not for me.

That dude is so good he can play whatever he wants to, obviously.

When he's playing live it's not really noticeable. I knew it was there and still didn't think about it the majority of the time.
