overdrive/fuzz quest part 2

my newest one, an orginal Acoustic 360 germanium fuzz with some extra bells and whistles.

to make it, I used the original 360's germanium fuzz schematic, drew up a vero for the it, modified it to run on 9 volts, then i added a clean blend, a tilt tone control and finally a Jfet booster so the clean blend would have unity gain at 12:00 and a +4db boost fully clockwise. it's a pretty gnarly fuzz pedal for bass. other than running it on 24v, I used all original NOS transistors (2N3391's and a 2N1306) and the same value of resistors and caps in it so it's tone would be true to the original.

Hey john, not sure if I asked this before, so sorry if I did, but have you ever built a preamp that modeled and or copied the old acoustic preamp?

yes. I built the viva analog 360+ preamp a while ago. it's an exact clone of the original 360.

This may be a little bit of a weird question. Where did you get those knobs? I'm making a fuzz for a friend and those knobs would really tie the room together.

I have one as well, smoothest low midst ever!!!! Not a John k build, mine is a dicosmo, but I love it.....

I've got the board, now for the parts. I know my finished box will never look as good as JohnK's does though.

Might have to go with those knobs though. They ooze style.

John is there anyway to get around the double preamp issue if i go with the 360+ otherwise it is really not a pedal but a preamp.....

not that I know of since the 360+ is a completely integrated preamp just like the original.

would you recommend using it as a effect pedal or by passing the the preamp of an amp and using this either thru the effect or preamp in..

there are songs i want a 360 but other times i like my ampeg sound...

any ideas???

the 360+preamp sounds excellent, so when I use mine, I patch into the power amp in or the the receive of the loop bypassing the amp's front end completely.

I leave my preamp and my eq flat on my mesa, run the 360 as an effect. Since mine only has on/ mute, I have it in a loop master. Its bypassed 95% of the time but when I want it on I just step on the loop and there it is.

Still using both pre amps but what can U do?

How about using a couple of AB/Y boxes? That way, you could have two paths:

1: Pedalboard > 360+ > Poweramp In (effects loop) (#1 ABY bypasses the preamp, second aby used to send directly in effects return)
2: Pedalboard > Instrument In (#1 ABY used to now go to the amp's preamp, ABY #2 acts as simply a sable in the effects loop of the amp, bypassing the 360+ entirely)


That way you can either use the preamp on the amp or the 360+ as the sole preamp.

would this work? wouldn't having a plug in the power amp in even if turned off with AB still turn off the internal preamp??
