overdrive/fuzz quest

BTW, before I built the superbass, I built a JCM800 simulator pedal (since I really dig JCM800's), it used 6 JFETS and had 5 trimpots so you could bias 4 of them. although the circuit actually followed a real JCM800 (2204) preamp schematic, it not only didn't sound like one, but it's distortion was way too fizzy and unpredictable. in other words, it sucked big time. after that failure, I built up the Super Bass and I couldn't be happier with it.

here's a pic of the JCM800 board (which is going into the 'fix/redesign it later' bin for now):

I haven't mounted it in the enclosure yet (so it's a little noisey) but due to requests, here's a quick sound clip of the super bass

That sounds really good John. Something about where the Marshall distortion sound places the emphasis of the note sounds really good to my ears. I bet this can give much of the Guv'nor growl too.

yeah, and I didn't even mess around with the treble, mids and bass controls in that clip. this circuit has a TON of low end if you want it to. not only NO low end loss, but is capable of boosting the low end ALOT.

I use it for a specific purpose so it isn't an issue for me, but I find the bass on the Guv'nor goes from not enough to too much and flubby with only a sliver in between.

the bass on this stay tighter than the Guv'nor?

I like that Superbass clip a lot! Was that DI, or through a cab?

that was a p bass thru my SVT7pro (all tone knobs at noon) eminence 3015 2x15 cab, just like all of the other clips that I've posted.

so far, I think the super bass is the most touch sensitive/responsive, amp-like pedal that I've built played thru to date, and that's ALOT of pedals!

Good sign, how does it stack tonally to the SS2?

they're two different animals tonally. the SS2 has more of a voice of it's own. it super smooth, sustainy and has a lot of harmonics. the SB sounds more like a marshall amp being driven soft, medium or hard. both of them are awesome, just different.

for a little diversion from building so many OD's, Fuzz's, and distortions, I thought i'd build an 'all in one' delay/tremolo/chorus pedal. it's a DIY pedal called the Magnus Modulus. it's a decent pedal for what it is, (IMO, a jack of all trades/master of none) but you can get some pretty darn cool and unique sounds out of it. here's a few pics of the build:
