Holy pedals Batman! Did you build all those?
according to the Kreuzer schematic it switches the mid freqs of the tone pot.
I used BF245's. I tried 2n5457's and they sound about the same.
Hey John...I'm starting to play some faster songs and I'm looking for more precision in my dirt tone. Some times it can all turn to mush. Have you noticed if any of these pedals react better to faster playing?
Looks awesome. What do you think about replacing the opamp section with something like an SS2, Flipster, Triple Wreck, etc?
I thought about that, but there's no real need to. the TL072 is a JFET op amp and I think that it sounds nice in this preamp. i'll probably mess around the with tone stack and filtering in this one though. IMO, they can be a little too bright on the top end.
I always found mine too dark and mushy because of the extreme clipping of the opamps.
John K:
Could you please list your favorites??
IMO, it's the tube that does that. if you use a 12AU7 they're ALOT better (and ALOT less mushy).
I imagine they're all a little different but in the blue tube I had if you took the tube out and used a piece of wire it sounded almost exactly the same. The opamp is set up x300+ gain on it's own. There is plenty of clipping.
Don't get me wrong. I love this design. I just think it could use some updating.
I thinking of trying this but throwing a weber transformer in there to step the voltage up for the tube. Ever tried a setup like that John?
