Overdrive - Ghost, a nameless ghoul....

Don't know the answer, but I can say their live show sounds exactly like the record. Also the Nameless Ghouls didn't appear to have any pedals in front of them, as they roamed all over the stage, so I would imagine any effects triggering is done offstage by the sound crew; makes it tricky to guess what they used.

Check [Invalid or Expired Link Removed] he is listed as one of the artist that uses that pedal. And if you click here [Invalid or Expired Link Removed] it says the "band" uses the mxr compressor, the m80 DI+ and the bass overdrive. I wish I knew if he really used any of those on that song because I love his tone!!!!

Just recently saw this band live, and his bass sound killed. It was so fat and thumby, and he didn't drown out with a full band as most bassists with two guitars do!
But you did hear him way better on his "own" parts, such as the start of From the Pinnacle to the Pit

I want a rig rundown with Premier Guitar on these guys, I saw them way back in their early days when they played standard Orange / Marshall amps, and then went on to AxeFX, but still interested in seeing what they use. Those Gibson RD's are killer as well, they used quite a few of them, even a 70s sunburst with Moog electronics!

I just 'discovered' Ghost a few weeks ago and have been learning songs like crazy.

For one, I think I need a 'real' p bass, but I can get some good but not great imitation of his sound with my vmtd pushing fairly hard, and the b7k on very low gain doing a little shaping/adding some bite after. In general, I'd say the DG stuff doesn't do what I'd call a low mid crunch like that, but I can fake it.

Seen em twice on the A7X tour, and most recently on their Meliora tour. AWESOME show!

Yep, not an amp or anything to be found onstage.

Also, just as an off-guess, I am going to say the tone is based off an Orange AD200, with or without a pedal or two. But, hoping this magical tone can be had in a stomp-box......even though I learned several years ago that there is no cheap lunch, let alone free lunch

Clearly the VMT gets you very close to Con Clavi Con Dio:


I get even a little closer to that, P bass into VMT into B7K

The tone changes a bit tour to tour. When they supported Opeth & Mastodon, it was the Con Clavi tone, though pushed even harder (using an Orange amp). It was a little rounder and less driven on the Infestissamum tour, and on the latest one there's more switching going on (somewhere), as the tones match the albums pretty much exactly.

EDIT: But yes, the clip is B7K through-and-through.

I always assumed it was just a generic TS type overdrive with some studio magic applied. The sound is great in the mix but when soloed (on the first album at least), it has that compressed TS sound to it. Either way I like the tone a lot. May have to breakdown and try the M89. I was never a fan of the drive sound on my M80 so I never gave the other MXR stuff a fair shot.
