I had two Q5s, and they were great. My issue was that I was worried about warped necks, and I never even learned neck maintenance.
26 years later and no truss rod.
Mine's the same as when I got it..

Whoops hit send a little quick there...
I was going to add that I still don't prefer the fretless thing much, but on an acoustic it makes sense to me. It's like having a miniature double bass, but not really..,
I had to had some stuff like I really wanted a 5 strings very early on and I still own that 5 strings and still like it. I then moved to 6 strings and love it, used them all the time. The I had to have a fretless, I do have a 6 strings fretless...
So no, nothing is/was over hyped in my case as I still use them. I've got my first 6 strings 11 years ago, my first 5 strings 15 years ago.
I guess my overhyped would be to have instrument that cost 2k and more while less expensive could do it but it wasn't what I wanted. I've learned quite early one that I should never settle to something less expensive than what I truly want because I will be disappointed, sell the less expensive and one day buy the one I wanted in the first place and be happy. So this is what I do. I don't buy instrument very often because of that and I'm happy. Less prone to GAS.

Hey if you are truly playing what works for you, cool.![]()
I wish my Precision had 21 frets. Sometimes I'm noodling, and I could do with that one final E way up there...!As mentioned....
24 frets - all 21 these days.
You only think you are enjoying them. You are, in reality, mired in misery and loneliness. You need to go buy a P bass. You'll feel much better, I promise.
I look at my Zon, and think "from the perspective of the Doc's post, it has a lot of 'overhyped features'"
Figured Bubinga top - I have loved beautiful wood on basses since 1982 when I built a bass out of koa. So no overhype.
Active - fits the sound I want. So no overhype.
Composite neck - first time I played a Zon fretless, I realized that it was a tonally unique beast and I fell in love. So no overhype.
5 strings - been playing 5'ers pretty exclusively since 1988. They work for me, I use the B string all the time. So no overhype.
Extended fingerboard - I don't play in the upper, upper registers. However if I hadn't had it built with the extended fingerboard, I would have had Joe put a ramp on that part of the body. Extended fingerboard = ramp, cleaner and easier. Maybe overhype, but I think not.
Extended cutaway - I really don't play that high on the neck , afraid I'd get nosebleeds or something. OK, overhype. But I like it.
Partial fretlines - I LOVE these things. Makes position jumps easy for me. So no overhype.

I absolutely LOVE never tripping over/unplugging cables!!Wireless..... I tried to go wireless on multiple occasions and just didn't really care for it. Spent Lord knows what on different systems, and they were all just O.K......
Then I discovered those good cables, those Mogami ones and haven't looked back....
I know!! We all need to see it your way!!!A trend that really needs to die is owning more than 2 basses.

You forgot eye shadow
