Overlooked Great Bass Albums.

Man good call, Guy Pratt on bass. Underrated album in general.

I'm a huge TM / Invalid Link Removed fan. The guy was a flat out brilliant musician. Most all of his recording are available on line. If you don't have it, get "The Shaming Of The True" album. You won't regret it. It is the last thing he was working on before he died.

PS. If you like Pratt's bass work, get the old Icehouse album Measure For Measure. His work on that is superb!

Prefab Sprout's 'Steve McQueen' or 'Two Wheels Good' (in the USA)

Sparkling production by Thomas Dolby, great song writing and a tight quartet.

The bass is subtle, driving and melodic all at once.

"Ship Arriving Too Late to Save a Drowning Witch" by Frank Zappa. The bass really made the album. I can't think of a song with a more bad-ass, rocking low-end groove than this:

I'm glad Dada was brought up. Awesome stuff there. I'd say "Parallels" by Fates Warning has some great fretwork by Joey DiBiase.

Can't go wrong with some Zappa.

Here's an overlooked album in general. The production is slick, Gary Katz of Steely Dan fame.

The bass sits really well in the mix. Nothing too fancy or complicated - it just grooves.

Love and Money - 'Strange Kind Of Love'

- great Scottish band.

Cell Scape - Melt Banana. The bass is so perfect for the music. Somehow it isn't overshadowed by the crazy guitar.

Andy Pratt is more known as a pianist, but he played some great bass on his debut Columbia record. I learned a lot about constructing bass lines from Avenging Annie.

Okay, I'll play. Give Full House from Fairport Convention a listen. Dave Pegg is really good. Check out the multi-part tune," Dirty Linen" from that album.

Third Matinee also had some great bass form Jimmy Johnson and I think Guy Pratt as well.
Not as edgy and dark as TM but some beautiful stuff.
Immediately Lenny Whites "Streamline" comes to mind. IIRC it was the debut of Marcus and he already had it ALL worked out.
The same goes with Gary Numans "I Assassin". Pino sounds at the top of his game right off the bat.
Prefab Sprout- interesting rhy section. "Jordan-the Comeback" had some very cool minimal but smart parts going on.
Also some of those Cameo records had amazing bass parts, especially the funk ballads like "Groove with You".

All American Girls - Sister Sledge. Randy Jackson was masterful and overall imho this album with Narada Michael Walden pound for pound trumps any of their other albums, even those with Nile and Bernard.
