Overrated Bass Players

Krist Novoselic...overrated?

Krist's basslines were golden underneath Kurt's playing, not to mention the guy was rock-solid live. not the most technical or gymnast, but the guy grooved...

When you can write stuff like this let us know

he looks like he could fall asleep at any moment. eh, maybe it's just me, but i can't get into the whole fast-metal thing.

"play as fast as you possibly can, points off for using a box pattern. you have to run up and down the thickest strings! that's the way to play! oh, and never, EVER play something different than the rhythm guitar line..."

i just don't see it.

The thing about these threads is, you take a "down and dirty meat and potatoes" bass player like Duff or Gene Simmons and there are people who hate them and there are people who love them. Then you take progressive, forward thinking chops heavy players like Wooten, Jaco or Geddy Lee and you have people who hate them and love them.

The truth is: every player in this thread has been paid to play in front of large groups of people with recordings that have sold high numbers and I'm willing to bet that most (if not all) of the posters in this thread are driving in to a day job tomorrow morning.

I bet most of the posters can't even say that! LOL

I would have to say Jaco. He was talented why? Because he played jazz & was bi-polar? Because he SAID he was the best? My god, if we could find an austic, egomaniacal, prog rocker the bass world would have a new ass to kiss!

+1

Oh boy! Another sour grapes and jealousy thread.
TR! Good to see you here! It's been a bit since TBL days. PM me and let's catch up.....
+1 BTW.
I always think I have the choice of being "Tigger" and celebrating the success of others while being inspired to practice or "Eyore".
Since I really don't care for the taste of thistles I choose option 1....;)

My god... if we could only find a chronically underachieving self-absorbed bass player who couldn't ride the A-string and keep 4/4 time because he is too busy being a slacker rock n roller, we could kiss his lame ass, too.

These type of threads always make me laugh. Somebody posts up a list of bassist along with their OPINION about these bassist and the bickering starts.
It starts with the OP basing "overrated" on pure talent and turns into people popping into the thread with posts like "well 'X' bassist isnt overrated because they were an intrical part in their band to create 'Y and Z'.
If we're basing "overrated" on talent alone and not anything else, we can include Sir Paul McCartney.

So one the most significant musical figures in the history of civilization is overrated in your opinion? Alrighty then.
