OVNIFX Smoothie Compressor

Just got mine, thanks for getting it out so quick, Bongo!

Very impressed with both construction and sound. I liked the OC Bass and this one gives me what that did and more. Has that tone magic that I heard about but didn't find with the Diamond.

It's easy to dial-in but there's a lot of ground to cover and I'm still tweaking and experimenting.

How does it compare with a cali76tx?

I asked Bongo earlier in the thread if I should get one, since i have the Cali76tx and I am on the waiting list for an FEA, he told me not to get one :) My guess is that it is a very good compressor and i should probably try it anyway. But, I want to also respect the opinion of the foremost expert on bass compressors :)

Seriously though, it is very small, would save a lot of board space...

Ouf! I love my Cali! But had to ask!

Thanks man.

Hey guys. The cali is staying for sure. I have tried every comp I could. Fea opti fet. Db cl. Rane dc 24. Compressore. Mxr m87. Fairfirld acct. 3 pwnzors. The pwnzor is on my smaller board.

Now having said all that. I have no 1 of batch one of the smoothie and I love it. I had considered moving it but......lately im being using both the cali and the smoothie. Nit at the same time but for different sounds. The smoothie really has a fantastic fattening sound that ive been really loving lately.

Def a fantastic comp for that price or any price.

The deal-maker feature for me (apart from the overall quality of the tone) is the ability to blend compressed and uncompressed signal right in the box. It's a great way to get the benefit of compression (taming transients, fattening) and still retain the touch dynamics. I really like a 50/50 blend for that.

H.o.l.y. C.r.a.p.

This thing sounds AWESOME. Sorry for the late post - I meant to post last week after receiving it, but I lucked out and found a passive 5-string (my first) for $80. A few hours of TLC later plus new strings and it plays well, so I coupled it with the Smoothie and sorta ended up forgetting a few things; like eating, sleeping, the wife, the dog, and of course posting a reply!

I can honestly say I cannot find a "favorite" setting. Depending on what I'm playing, I change around the settings a fair bit. I'm struggling to get a sound I don't like, so it really does just depend on the style I'm in the mood to play. As others have said, it adds phat thickness to the tone, gives you complete control over attack & sustain (as you'd hope from any decent compressor) and with independent volume knobs for clean & compressed signals plus a tone knob, you can find the perfect sound you want for damn near every play style or type of music. I'm very impressed!

Here's a bass demo I put together. There's obviously a million and a half ways to approach a demo with a pedal this feature-rich...but I thought to keep the video reasonably short, to the point, and still indicative of how useful this pedal is, I'd show these things:

- Dry signal
- Effected signal, including the range of the attack, sustain, and tone knobs
- How the direct blend works
- Dry and effected signals mixed in with a drum pattern

It's hard to convey all the good things about this pedal just through youtube, but I think it's pretty apparent how much clarity and fatness the Smoothie adds when it's engaged.

I HIGHLY recommend this pedal!

That's an excellent video.

Has anybody had the chance to compare the Smoothie to the Wampler Ego and can share their thoughts?
@cybersnyder, aren't you part of the Wampler camp?
